You will be on his mailing list but that is a small price to pay for safer pet food.
On behalf of Dexter and Sadie who were harmed by eating toxic food we say thanks.

Here is a link to the letter that you can send.

Oh, xocats, I didn't know! I am so sorry that Dexter and Sadie were hurt by the contaminated food -- how are they now? and what have you done regarding their diets, if I might ask? Sure thank you for the link; signed the petition and alerted friends including some with websites.

According to the Natural Balance web site American Nutrition added RPC to some NB formulas without the consent of NB. This makes me very nervous. What other formulas by other manufacturers may have been altered without notice? At least the Venison and Pea that my cats love is on the safe list (so far).

I went to three stores to day to buy food for my cats. Pets Discount had no NB canned Venison and Pea on the shelf. When I asked if it was available I was told that they had been told to remove all NB venison products from the shelf. I explained that, to my knowledge, only the dry venison formulas are on recall. The person I spoke with still said it cannot be sold. I was at the same store the second day of the dry V/P recall and had no problem buying the canned V/P. The canned Ocean Fish that is on recall was still on the shelf today. Maybe the word hasn't reached Hawaii yet? I then went to Pet Spot, where there was no problem buying the canned V/P. All this was before I read about the recall of some canned NB foods.

I guess my point is that there is a considerable amount of confusion and/or poor communication between manufacturers and pet food stores regarding what is or is not on recall. Or the stores are making their own policy.

This happens when you hire someone else to can your food, they can mix in whatever because you aren't there to monitor it.

Wow...I feel like this is never going to end. I'm switching over to Orijen because it is grain free...and only Canadian grown/raised ingrediants.

One question: Does anyone know who manufactures Kirkwood dog food (COSTCO product). One of my co-workers has been feeding it, and is concerned but hasn't been able to find out anymore information about their ingrediants or manufacturing plants?!

Here's a link to the Itchmo news release regarding Kirkland products. They are made by American Nutrition.

I don't know if anyone uses this brand (I don't) but I saw it on Itchmo and thought I would post it here:

IMPORTANT NEWS

April 26, 2007

Harmony Farms Cans And Biscuits Recalled Due To Product Tampering

We regret to inform you that Sierra Pet Products has announced a voluntary recall of its Harmony Farms canned foods and dog biscuits due to product tampering.

Sierra Pet Products was made aware of the product tampering when American Nutrition, Inc. (ANI), the manufacturer of all Harmony Farms cans and biscuits, informed the Company that they had been adding rice protein concentrate to Harmony Farms canned dog and cat foods without the Companyâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]s approval.

It appears that ANI had been adding the unauthorized rice protein concentrate to Harmony Farms products for some time and only told the Company when the FDA was about to conclude that some of ANIâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]s rice protein concentrate (Supplied by Wilber-Ellis) was contaminated with Melamine.

Important Facts about the recall:

• Sierra Pet Products has elected to cease doing business with ANI effective immediately and remove all its cans and biscuits from retailerâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]s shelves.

• Products recalled include all Harmony Farms canned dog and cat foods, and all Harmony Farms Health Bar biscuits.

• No Harmony Farms product has tested positive for melamine.

• There have been no reported illness of any dog or cat as a result of consuming either our food or biscuits

• All Harmony Farms dry dog and cat foods are safe for consumption

• Consumers who have unused or partially used packages of any Harmony Farms recalled products should return them to their place of purchase for a complete refund.

We have informed our retail partners and the FDA about this action, and will be cooperating with them to complete this recall quickly.

As a relatively new brand, Harmony Farms is in the process of building trust with pet parents and this cannot be accomplished if we are unable to trust our manufacturer.

We intend to re-introduce our canned products and dog biscuits as soon as we can obtain a manufacturing partner who shares our values of honesty and integrity.

Sincerely,

Sierra Pet Products
