Hello from Texas
Iâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]ve been a reader and lurker on this site for months and finally want to introduce myself and my babies. I live in Austin Texas and have two beautiful cats:
Lilly – a beautiful tortie/calico girl who is approximately 4 years old.

and
Forrest – my newly adopted little black Mommyâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]s boy. Heâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]s now 5 ½ months old, extremely active and just the sweetest little boy ever.

Both my babies were adopted from shelters. Lilly was a stray adopted from a shelter in Seattle. When she came to our home in 2004, she was less than a year old and had been a teenage mother living a horrible life on the streets of Seattle. When my husband and I got her she had just had her kittens taken away and had been spayed. What a grateful and sweet girl she is. She appreciates so much being taken in off the streets and loved. A few days after she came to live with us we bought her a large post scratcher. It was like watching a kid at Christmas with a beloved toy. It totally amazed me and my husband how appreciative she was (and is) of her life with us.
In August of this year we adopted Forrest. He was a feral – trapped locally in Austin, TX at 8 weeks of age, fostered and then came to us at 12 weeks old. Heâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]s the sweetest little boy.
Lilly and Forrest get along fairly well. Right now, Forrest is more like the annoying little brother to Lilly but they play and sleep together so all is well. Before we adopted Forrest, Lilly had been very non-active and acting like a geriatric cat. At 3-4 years old this seemed inappropriate to my husband and I and thought that maybe a companion to her would be appreciated. Sheâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]s much more active now and seems very happy
As with Lilly, our little Forrest came with some horrible parasites and other health issues. When I met Forrest for the first time it was love at first sight and he was obviously “my†little boy. I know black cats donâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]t get adopted as readily as the “cute†kittens do and he also had a disadvantage by having some large scars on his legs where no hair grew (due to injuries as a small baby in the wild). The scars, along with the raging herpes he had affecting his eyes, made him a little unattractive – but nothing a little quality food and daily lysine couldnâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]t cure! Heâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]s now an extremely sleek and healthy 5 ½ month old.
I look forward to being an active member of the cat site. Thanks for all the great info!
