There is a kitty I am considering adopting so that Matilda has a little sibling to keep her company. They have similar personalities and I think they even look alike. (Pictures in this thread: http://thecatsite.com/forums/showthr...=146798&page=2 )

When I talked with the foster mom for the kitty, she said that the kitty hasn't been tested for feline leukemia. What if I end up adopting her and she does have it? I don't know a lot about it, is it something that Matilda could get? (Matilda's had 2 shots for it already I think, I'd have to double check with her vet papers).

I believe the shots are lik 85% effective. Can the foster home get her tested? Or perhaps pick her up from the foster home & go straight to the vet for the test?

I would test the new kitty if you can...if your cat is an adult it is not quite as susceptible as a kitten, but as has been mentioned, the vaccine is not 100% effective. Feline leukemia is so sad, I had a scare with my cat once (fortunately she does not have the virus). But for the peace of mind, I would get the kitten tested before bringing it home.

The likelihood of a kitty having leukemia is actually pretty low, but to be safe I would make an appointment at the vet's before even bringing her home
