Last night I was petting Sohni and noticed a squishy lump. I have been on holidays for a week and he had been looked after by petsitters, so I am not sure if the lump is brand new or if it has been there for a few days. I have a vet appointment at 2pm and it's 10am now.

The lump is in the form of a disc 1.5 inches wide and it does move from side to side. It doesn't seem to bother him when I touch it, and he is just as active as usual. He is eating, drinking, excreting as usual.

I have looked it up online and have seen:

Abscess
Fatty Tumour
Cancer

Hmm, did a search here and saw that reactions to vaccinations could cause lumps. I just had his vacc's done 2 weeks ago. I think that is about the same area.

The vet says it's probably a reaction to the vaccinations and to watch it carefully. I also had some blood taken to test for FIV and leukemia as I have a new kitten coming. He says he has seen only 3 positive results back from the tests, but it's good to be safe. Sohni is an indoor cat now, but he was born outside.

Yay, Sohni's tests came back negative. So he is FIV and Leukemia free. The vet says that the lump is a pretty normal side effect of any injection. He also mentioned that the vet association has renamed Vaccine Associated Sarcoma to Injection Site Sarcoma as it appears that any injection may cause the cancer, and not just vaccines. But in his practice, he has never seen the phenomenon. I was worried about it of course.
