Ok so I am getting a cell phone this weekend, but I cant decide between 2 services which are AT&T or Sprint!

I have has AT&T before and I loved it, and my mom has had it for several years now and loves it too

But Sprint also has what I want and its reasonably priced
I just don't know much about their service and their phones!

Well I actually don't know much about what are good phones/brands of phones to get and everything so any any advice and stories is greatly appreciated

I actually have ATT but my friends have Sprint. ATT problem is which is it......Cingular, ATT?! The never ending question!
Another issue I have is the so called slogan "least dropped calls" Cingular has, never experienced so many till they took over ATT the first time! They also have horrible phone deals and are very difficult when it comes to phone insurance .
From what I have heard from my friends, Sprint has regular, dependable service, phone deals and friendly customer service.

I have Verizon (yes, I realize it wasn't in your list of choices!) I'm happy with it. My sister in California also has Verizon. I bought my parents a phone on my Verizon plan too. The reason I went with Verizon is because calls between Verizon customers are free.

Probably the best way to figure out which service you should get is to figure out who you would be calling the most. Find out how each service treats in network and out of network calls and go from there.

My family is split between Verizon and Sprint but I have Sprint. I have one of their lowest plans for $39.99 a month with 450 minutes which is great because I don't use many minutes and the ones I do use are mostly Sprint to Sprint or after 7pm when they're free.

Nuh uh...might give me away!
My husband and I both have Sprint and love it. They have excellent customer service. The only bad thing is that it won't work in more remote areas.

My experience with Cingular? HORRIBLE customer service. They lost a monthly payment that my mom sent in (it was a check). My mom sent them a fax of the front and back of the cashed check FOUR times and it wasn't until nearly a year later and her cancelling the service that it mysteriously appeared. Every month they would kill our phone service and then try to make my mom pay an activation fee...all because they applied the amount of the payment to the wrong account.

Okay, this is the same exact plan that I have, yet my bill is usually over $120 a month. I do have insurance added every month, which is $7 monthly, and I have $5 unlimited internet which includes video and picture mail. I rarely use my phone, and I rarely send pictures, much less videos, and I rarely use texts.

Sprint to Sprint calls are free--same as Verizon.

I would question them about that. Something sounds very wrong with that figure.

I have had Sprint since I first got a cell phone. Originally when we got it, it was the only national carrier available in our area. I've been happy with my service. No problems there.

The only thing we've had problems with is billing. But those were related to moving and changing to a local number (which we have to go through again soon). They also tried to renew our contract when we hadn't renewed or got new phones. We called them on it, they then sent me a "sorry" card, put us back to month-to-month, and when we did get our new phones there was an extra discount put on our account for the problem.
So I was happy.

Our last couple bills were high, but Mike has been traveling back and forth and we've been using text messaging.
We have to add that to our plan after we move, since we'll have to go in and change things anyway.

I have cingular/att and I used to love it. Then Att joined, and now my calls get dropped, I randomly dont get signal, my phone will do random junk. I'm not happy with them at the moment, but all the people I call have cingular so I never use minutes, so I'll probably stick it out

I have a regional carrier in Wisconsin as all of the big carriers do not fully cover Wisconsin.

When I worked we had Sprint and there was so much of my work territory that had no service!! My husband's carrier at work is Sprint and there are switching to the same regional carrier I have (Cellcom) because of that coverage issue and Sprint's poor customer service.

I would check each provider coverage area.

I think my sis has verizon but whatever big carrier she was I have lots of problems when she calls me as lots of her words are unclear!!

As for phone I have a Motorola V262. Nothing fancy as I use it for calls only.
Don't pay for what you won't use!!

I have AT&T and I haven't had any problems except for a minor one when I upgraded. I signed another two year agreement and got a better phone. I went on the website and activated it and it didn't work but they did turn off my other phone, I don't have a home phone so I had no phone. I went to work and was going to call customer service from work. One of the techs at work said to let him try calling my cell. That went through and the phone worked after that. I think they were probably supposed to send a signal to my phone to finish activating it and they didn't.

I was a Nextel subscriber, and when Sprint took over, I started getting TONS of dropped calls, my signal stinks now whereas it used to be GREAT.

I've heard from friends that have AT&T and they don't love it (only the Verizon users seem to be really satisfied) but I'd say steer clear of Sprint. The service - cellular AND customer service - STINKS.

I have sprint and I dislike it very much. My DH and I drop calls ALL the time, they signed us up for one service then messed it up somehow and we got a 350 dollar phone bill (which we had to bring in our copy of the paperwork to prove) , and my voicemail gets messed up. People kept calling and saying they had left me a message to call them back but I never got it. Then, one day, I checked my voicemail and it said I had 62 messages. SIXTY TWO. They went back 3 months... It has happened many times. I had so many complaints they let me out of my contract early. The worst part is we have to go stand in the middle of the front yard to get service at our house...

In the past we have at Cingular (both when they were Cingular and before they became that), ATT, Sprint, and AllTel (both call phones and currently just home and internet). Quite frankly we did not (and do not) like any of them. Mainly because we don't use them often enough to justify a monthly 40$ or more a month a bill. Plus dropped calls and all that jazz. Right now we both have trac-phones and love them. Never had a dropped call (and we live in the booneys), and if money is tight and I can't get new minutes its fine until next month because I just pay when I need the minutes. The only down side is if you wait to long to get new minutes you have to get a new number but for us thats no biggy.

I know this one is not on the list either but I have Alltel which I have been very happy with. From what I heard they have the best reception thoughout Michigan but I cannot say as I have not tried any of the others beside ATT which was horrible up North. The main reason I got it to begin with is that it was one of the only ones that came in good at my cottage. Alltel to Alltel is also free. I would go with the one that the most people that you will be talking to have, that is if they have good service.
my bf just has a prepaid Tracfone and he gets excellent signal with that too if that is an option.

AT&T used to be awful for cell phone service, but that was years ago and now that they've combined with Cingular it's probably better.

Everyone I've known who had Sprint ended up switching to Verizon, though.

What service do the people you will be calling the most have? I know my entire family and most of my friends have Verizon so it wouldn't make any sense not to, while if your whole family and friends have Cingular or Sprint it wouldn't make much sense not to get whichever one.

My daughter has Verizon. She travels a lot with her job and with Verizon she has almost no problems with reception. Her work cell phone is Sprint and the reception on that one is horrible. I can always tell which phone she is using.

DH and I had Sprint and had problems in rural areas, dropped calls, and voicemail messages that showed up hours late. We both dropped Sprint for a more reliable carrier.

I don't know about Sprint, but we have had ATT/Cingular/ATT for several years. We haven't had that many problems with them except for the occasional dropped calls, but every provider has them. We can upgrade our phones every 2 years. This last time, we got cool camera phones.
