In honor of Halloween:

If you had a chance to buy a house you REALLY loved, but thought it was haunted, would you or wouldn't you buy it?

Hi everyone,

In honor of Halloween, I posted this poll, and hope you enjoy it!

I almost bought a (what I thought was) haunted house. (I never told DH, who doesn't believe in ghosts, anyway; nor the realtor.)

I had a chance to buy this adorable 1926 house. It needed a bit of work to make it more in line with modern decorating tastes, but I loved it none-the-less. Hubby didn't like it, but told me to buy it if I really liked it. (We didn't, as the owners wouldn't even consider our low-ball offer, and sold it to someone else.) The rest of the house seemed not haunted, but the attic just felt haunted to me. Just a strong feeling--I didn't see or hear anything. Even so, I still wanted the house! It did occur to me that I'd have to be alone there, especially at night, a lot--4 levels worth of haunted house.

The funny thing is, we COULD have bought that house! As we were signing the papers for our current house, it was back on the market again (the folks who made the previous offer must have backed out. I think that the owners, from what I sensed, were jerks to deal with--nothing really wrong with the house itself). And, it was selling for exactly what we paid for this house! (The price was reduced.)

I think our current house may be haunted, though I haven't heard the "ghosts" lately. I didn't sense it was haunted, though, when we bought it. A few months after we moved in, I was dusting in the dining room downstairs. I was alone, except for the 2 cats we had then, who were both asleep in front of my eyes, in the living room. Above my left shoulder, upstairs (guest bedroom), I heard very distinctly, a man clearing his throat, and sneezing, twice. Then, a woman doing the same thing. I heard it once more a few weeks later. It was distinct--I don't think it was another sound similar to that. (It wasn't the cats--they don't clear their throats, and they were fast asleep, and din't sneeze.)

My house is over 150 years old and it was at one time a funeral parlor. Knock on wood, not a single ghost to be found...I could stand friendly or peaceful ghosts, but, as with the general consensus, I'll leave the mischevious and evil spirits to themselves thank you.

DH says we don't have any ghosts because they were already dead when they got here

I couldn't vote choosing one of the options, b/c it wouldn't matter to me one way or another.
Unless, of course, the house had a ghost that was violent!

When I was about 14, we lived in a house that had a downstairs apartment and an upstairs one; we lived in the downstairs one. We would hear people walking around up there when no one was home, and a couple of times we heard footsteps walking down the connecting back stairs to our apartment, and the sound of someone opening the door. We would go and look to see what was up, but no one was ever there - and the door would be open!

We mentioned it to the lady who lived upstairs, and she proceeded to tell us that she had SEEN a ghost in the middle of the night on more than one occasion. She said the room always got cold when she saw the ghost, and her dog would always start barking and freaking out.

I wouldn't have a problem with it, but only under certain conditions, the spirit(s) are not harmful violent and are not demonic, no demonic entities or open portal type things for my family.

I voted yes, I would, but there wasn't any "We already live in a haunted house" option. Just about everybody who has stayed over has seen "the man" walking through our upstairs at some time or other. He's not scary, except to little kids - our dog (RB) used to wag his tail, and the cats, including Jamie, (would) give that little "brrrr" greeting. He walks from the study through our bedroom, and then out into the hallway, where he disappears.

We're not sure whether our "holiday spirit", who makes pictures fall off the living room wall at Christmas, and microwave ovens go on strike from Easter Saturday afternoon till Easter Monday morning, is connected.

I wouldn't but my husband gets excited at the idea.
He's really interested in the paranormal because of all of his experiences.

I have lived in a haunted house, my in-law's house, but the ghost isn't a negative entity. Seems to be a prankster. I can handle that.

I say this as I'm watching an A Haunting marathon on Discovery channel.

I would buy it if it was the house I wanted. I don't believe in ghosts - as in spirits of dead people who still walk the earth. I do however believe in demon activity however.

Depends on if the spirits were mischievous or not. If the spirit didn't like being in the house I wouldn't buy it. If the spook didn't seem to mind I might.

As long as it wasn't Amityville Horror type mean I wouldn't have a problem with it, we grew up in a house with a ghost that my parents swore for the longest time was our imaginary friend until my grandma visited and see her.

If I knew it was haunted, why would I really spend money to buy it? I'm not afraid of ghosts (had seen some when younger) but to buy on purpose; no way.

Has nothing to do with "Amityville Horrow"

Funny - I'm the exact opposite. I believe in and see ghosts, but don't have any experience with demons, so I've always thought they didn't exist, except in the figurative sense of addictions or delusions.
