Tomorrow, Kahu goes in to be neutered (OUCH!) and I know I am not supposed to feed him, but is leaving water out okay? I dont want him to get dehydrated.
Also, is there any advice anyone can give me before I take him in for the big snip?

Thanks!

Kellye,

Call your vet and ask about water. Mine says to leave it out for them, but other vets would advise against it so it is really the clinic's say.

Don't stress out about this or Kahu will pick up those vibes. Put the carrier out tonight and let him lay in it if he wants- put toys and catnip inside for him to come and go if he likes, and even feed him one good meal of wet food inside the carrier (but leave the door open)

Kahu is at the vet right now, but I need to know how I should make him more comfortable when he comes home, I know that I need to get some cornstarch and put it on him so the cats wont get aggressive towards him, but is there anything else I will need to do for him? I will be getting some pain medication as the vet recommended it. Any advice?

Thanks in advance!

Do you mean you paid extra so they will give him a shot after neutering for the pain? He will be groggy and want to sleep, you need to confine him in a small room (or cage) for at least a day. You want to feed him 1/3 of what he normally gets after a few hours of him being home. You want to keep him away from stairs and climbing and just watch him to see how he does.

Kahu is now home, they said that the surgery went great and they do not use ketamine, thank goodness, they used gas anesthetic. I just covered him in cornstarch, now the cats are sniffing at the carrier. He is walking around like normal and acting like nothing has happened, but I am watching him like a hawk, he isnt even acting mad at me. Whew, he was so happy to see me. I was so sad when I went in to pick him up, I almost cried ( i dont know why, when everything was just fine!)

Thanks HIssy for your advice!

Can you put him in a spare bathroom with soft bed and some water and litter? Males rebound quicker after that operation, it is less intrusive. He may feel better out of the carrier as he associates the carrier with TED (the evil doctor)

My doctor let my dad, who dropped silas off for me, watch the whole procedure! It was cool, cause he told me exactly what happened!

my dad said it wasn't too bad, but I wouldn't want to watch it either! lol. First Silas got a shot and he fell asleep. Then the doctor shaved *you know where* and then he made just one small incision. So small that Silas didn't even get stitches! It was mostly healed by the time i took him home! and it all cost me about $35.
