Bless her little heart!! I also wonder if it may be constipation or blockage since her bottom is protruding and she's only had "little poos"....

Friday Morning Update - apologies for the tardiness!

Slooty

Slooty is doing just fine, save the fungus. Absolutely nothing new to report there.

Luna

Luna's appetite is slowly building, but she still isn't making regular BMs yet. Her butt has no abnormal or strong smell as some of you asked me to check for, and we think the black bits were/are scabs. I have no idea how she got scabs around her anus, but yesterday (Th) evening she did make a little BM and one of them broke off, causing her to bleed a bit. There was a moment of panic, but then we saw that her anus was noticeably healthier looking than the day before & the pictures I posted - it had retreated into her body, was pink again, etc. As with most things for poor Luna, we are monitoring the situation closely. She seems none the worse for wear though.

From the beginning we had been feeding them separately to avoid any lingering food competitiveness - they were strays after all. We've found now that Luna is far more likely to eat if she can line up next to Big Sloo to do so. Slooty doesn't mind, and doesn't try to steal her food, so we've been going with that lately.

Here's a photo showing them eating, and making it clear how much bigger Slooty has become in 2 short weeks.

Slooty still hunts Luna from time to time, but she's taken on a noticeably more motherly attitude. It's common to find them curled up with Slooty grooming Luna, or cuddling with her. That's very uplifting for us parents to see!

Outlook

Luna's weight is stable so we're not worried she might be getting worse. Her appetite has incrementally increased but we're still waiting for her to get going-

EDIT - we watch these 2 like hawks when we're home, and just as I finished that line I dashed away from the laptop because I saw Luna headed for her litterbox. She made a very small, formed BM in 3 parts and - as usual - meticulously buried it!

We've invested in a wonderful vacuum to fight the spread of fungus hairs, and we're caring for these little girls 24/7. We're getting there...!

Yes, you definitely are getting there!!!
They look wonderful! All the TLC you both are giving them can certainly be seen!!
And of course, the love that they have for each other is precious!!
I find it sooo amazing that two lost little cats have found such a wonderful new life and family!

I love Soo and Luna's latest picture.
They are gorgeous kitties.

Because of the acne, you might want to get rid of their plastic bowl.

Can you tell that we cat lovers wait in suspense for your next update?

Thank you for taking such good care of your two beauties.

I too noticed the plastic bowl, try feeding them both from plates until the acne clears up.

Have you managed to find a different vet yet?

You doing such a good job, and I can see that just by looking at the difference in their coats from when you first took them in.

I'm glad Luna's bottom is better, and I hope Slooty's ringworm is clearing up ok. Did Luna ever contract ringworm? What you and your fiancee?

Good work, keep it up.

The most recent picture of your girls is adorable. It's wonderful that they love each other and that Slooty is so good to Luna.

More positive, healthy vibes and hugs for all.
You're doing a great job.

Friday Night Update

Kind of a misnomer really, as there is no update here. We took a German chap swinging through town out to dinner & a chat. It's midnight and I need to get some shuteye before starting my weekend grind at my second job. I'll give you all a short update in the morning before work.

Here's the super short version though - everyone's ok, no real change, thank you for all the love and support!

You have 2 jobs.

It was probably good for you to get out for awhile.

I can't tell you how much I appreciate you taking the time to let us know how "our" babies are doing.

I did, too. Rice bowls, like the one Luna is eating out of in the photo, make great cat dishes. I have a whole collection of them, and when I see them on sale somewhere, I pick them up for the shelter or as gifts. Plain white, i.e., unpainted, ones are probably the best, given the recent "lead paint & toys" recalls.

Those two are looking good!

Saturday Morning Update

Thank you all for your vigilance with the plastic bowl. You're absolutely right and I cringed when I saw the first post mentioning it. That's actually the only one we have, but Daddy forgot to remove it in all the excitement. They're both eating out of small ceramic or glass dishes now - which are much easier for us to clean anyhow.

My two fluffy little monsters are at the moment happily eating. I got up just past six to begin getting ready for work and was ambushed in the living room by two very demanding kittens. I can see from where I'm sitting that Luna still hasn't eaten very much, but just having her demand food when I got up was another sign that she's headed in the right direction.

I do work two jobs. I'm working 7 days a week with no break until New Years right now. Saturday & Sunday are actually my two heaviest days of the week, with Wednesday only being a half-day. While you folks are looking forward to your weekend plans, I'm still staring down the most taxing part of the week.
It was indeed nice to get out of the apartment and have a good dinner with a new friend.

Best wishes to all of you. The girls aren't tip-top but are doing fine. See you all tomorrow!

ENGLAND... LAND OF HOPE AND GLORY!
Andrew it's certainly sounding good with your little girls
And don't worry with the bowl scenario, most of us have all been there with plastic ones and found out through this site that they weren't the best things to put the food in, i was myself, but that's what were all here for to be educated

Being ambushed, i love it because i have a mental picture of two white fluff balls chasing after you

I can relate. Like you, I'm a U.S. ex-pat teaching English as a foreign language (in Germany; my husband is German). I no longer teach on weekends, but I can say that teachers never have a "free" weekend, except during summer vacations. My weekend plans include correcting a huge stack of tests tomorrow, and planning/typing up new tests on Sunday.
