After reading labels until my head is spinning, I need help

I have many cats ranging in age from 6 to 14. Started off with 2 and had always fed them Purina Chicken and Rice. Feral colony adopted me then after the spaying, neutering, finding homes and keeping leftovers, my population sort of boomed. Seems the ones of feral roots tended to groom each other (littermates, etc) more than the two I started off with and therefore tended to puke/yak up hairballs and food more often. I switched from the Purina One Chicken and Rice to Purina One Hairball formula, but there is still a lot of yakking going on. I've also noticed that a couple of the cats that used to have very nice, sleek coats have started feeling dry. Not to mention that one has started packing on the pounds. I started reading food labels and boy was I surprised to see who much non meat was in their food. So, I'd like to change over to something that has a little more meat and digestable protein a little less grain and carbs. I'd looked at Evo, but I'm not sure that they'd do well on something SO high in protein. Is there anything that is reasonably priced that would work well for all of them? They free feed at several food stations. None have any medical issues except for the one that's a few pounds overweight.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I have access to Petsmart as well as a pet food specialty store and the regular grocery stores.

Thanks.

Hello,

here is a thread started by Sharky with everyone's food recs.

I feed RC dry and mix it up with Nutro Wet and wellness pouches.

Hope this helps.
