Hi,

The kittens we have left are now 10 weeks old and we have been keeping them seperated from Pixie for about 10 days now to let her milk dry up. The vet advised this as she is a very small cat and badly needs to put on weight.

Just thought I would ask how long it takes for the milk to dry up and when we can let them have contact again (looks like we will be keeping these 2 for a few weeks longer as my friend isn't ready to have them yet). It will be a lot easier when we can let them all be together again as we also have 3 other cats and keeping Pixie away and with them is a nightmare!

Thanks very much.

Still Hittin' 'Em Right Between The Eyes
With cats being such individuals as they are, the length of time for lactation to cease can be different with every cat. I would say you would be safe in thinking somewhere between two to four weeks.

With regard to your girl's weight issues, if you aren't already feeding her a good, high-quality kitten food in both dry and canned varieties, then it is a must now. You should let her eat as much as she wants, whenever she wants - until she is just short of reaching her weight goal. Then gradually cut back to maintain that weight. It takes a lot out of a little Momma kitty to go through pregnancy, delivery and then raising a litter. They do lose weight and for some, it can be a dangerous amount.

Additionally, once your girl is spayed, she will begin to put on a little weight.

Best of luck with your kitties.
