This will be the first time I've ever gotten to give out candy for Halloween. Since we've moved, I'm interested in what will happen around here. This is considered the "ritzy" district so who knows what'll happen?

I bought candy not only for kids, but for coworkers, as much as they upset me sometimes, I still feel bad when they have to work on a holiday. Lord knows I did it for years, so tomorrow I will be bringing candy to work for them to chow all day and night.

Plus, I do not want to buy candy because I will eat it.

I guess I will turn off the light and go shopping, but then I feel guilty.
I could leave candy on the doorstep, but that entails buying/eating candy. No, I cannot resist, as soon as I walk out of the store, the bag is opened.

Anyone else hate halloween?
Yes. I feel the same as you about it. I don't begrudge the kids their evening of fun, but I no longer want to be a part of it in any way.

The state we used to live it limited the time the kids could come around. 8:00 was the cut off. Here, it just goes on as long as they want. I find it exhausting to keep jumping up to answer the door, and I have to get up at 5:30 to go to work in the morning, which is hard even if I just relax all evening.

Plus, I would have to close my cats in the bedroom so I didn't have to worry about them trying to get out (I don't use the front door ever for anything), and I definitely don't want to do that.

I'll probably turn the lights out, but I'm not leaving the house. I'll just head upstairs and watch tv or something.

No! It's just when you get to a certain age, it's no longer fun to jump up every couple minutes, especially when you have to get up early the next day and go to work.

I like to see the kids costumes, but just can't do the candy thing anymore.

Just because I HATE Halloween doesn't mean I hate kids.
In fact I have four kids under the age of 10 and I love them more than anything in this world.

But that's a whole other thread in IMO that has already been argued over.

Your quads are very cute, and I am sure you are a good parent. But please don't come down on me for hating Halloween - you would too, if it brought 100,000 drunken strangers to YOUR neighborhood.
I didn't I just announced that its my kids Birthday... my goodness...
*sigh*... I'm learning I have to tip toe around this place... some people take things as a direct personal attack... I was simply excited for my children...

People, people, can't we all agree, to disagree?

There are people who do like Halloween and people who don't that's that.
Goodness, it's silly to argue over something like that isn't it?

Wow, I love this holiday! I decorate and celebrate, and buy candy for others. But I can see where some people would get annoyed if they didn't want cute little kids (and sometimes teens) coming to their home for candy for 5 seconds at various hours of the night. Some people like it, some don't. It is like that with all holidays.

Personally, it doesn't bother me and I am glad to help carry on the experience for other kids, I had such a fun time trick-or-treating as kid with my siblings.

Lore how cool your babies were born on Halloween. When I was a kid I always wished my birthday was on Halloween, born a couple weeks too late

When I was a child Halloween was a BLAST. We would be out till 10 pm and the streets were PACKED with scary costumes. We would have pillowcases full of candy. My grandparents would come from NY to MN so my grandma could make our costumes. It was so much fun.

I remember when people started to get razor blades in apples, or so the media said. There was the ban on home made treats...no more awesome popcorn balls! Then it was make sure to stop by the hospital to get your kids candy xrayed. Idiots ruined Halloween.

I now live in the middle of nowhere. I don't know if they even do Halloween here. I love what New Orleans has done since Katrina. Trick or Trunk. so cool. They decorate their car trunks, all park at a school parking lot and the kids go from trunk to trunk.

I bought candy in bulk for halloween. This is the first year in about 4 yrs that I have been home on halloween night. I used to work until 9pm but now I get off at 5:30.

I am dressing up tomorrow, or should I say dressing down. I am going to wear my flannel nightgown and terry robe! I am going to have curlers in my hair and be carrying a cabbage patch doll!

I don't know if we will get any kids since we just moved here in September. But it might be fun. Any leftover candy will be taken to work where I will keep it in my candy dish. I know the guy 2 cubicles down will eat it. I haven't taken any candy to work for awhile now since this kid cleaned me out. He is a pig! LOL

I would love to do something for Halloween but don't have anyone to do anything with. I think it is an awesome day. I haven't dressed up since I was a kid and think it would be so fun. Man, I gotta get some friends
No one will come to my door since its the third floor of a security building. If I ever get a better place, I will definitely hand out candy and maybe dress up to do it.

Lore, happy birthday to those beautiful little ones! Must be a blast to do FOUR Halloween birthdays

No offense meant, but instead of announcing your children's birthdays in a clearly meant to be negative "Bah Humbug Halloween" thread, why wouldn't you start your own thread that is a positive one about your cute kids and their holiday birthday?

That would have brought you a MUCH more positive response, and lots of compliments on your gorgeous kids - but instead you posted it here, stated that we must not like kids - it really felt like you were knocking those of us who are complaining that we don't like Halloween.

I think it has to do with context.

I would hand out candy if we lived somewhere that we got trick or treaters. I remember one year, we lived at my in-laws, Raven scared a little girl. He was laying on a box with a good view of the front door. A little girl came up (I just love all the cute costumes) and did the "trick or treat" thing. When Raven stood up and did a Halloween cat stretch. She let out a scream like you wouldn't believe.
It was so cute.

I am SO looking forward to Thursday! TOURISTS GO HOME!!!!
wow, I feel for you. that would drive me nuts. What about people who live in a shore resort area all year round? They hate summer because they can't move around, and have a bunch of drunks.

One of the posts reminded me of another reason I hate Hlwn. The doorbell! Poor cats freak everytime it rings. I decided, I will stay home, put a bucket of candy on the front step, turn the light off at 7:30 or earlier, I am going to call the twp. to see if there is an official stop time.

Oh, and I am going to force myself to buy candy I don't like. That will be the hard part.

A good idea for those who dont like getting up and down to answer hte door, instead of completely hiding, why not turn on your light and put a chair in front of you door with a big bucket of candy with an Honor System sign. We had a few houses do that in my neighbor hood as a kid, it always seemed to work really well!

I still like Halloween, but I did really dislike that when I moved to a "nicer" neighborhood (I don't know if it was really nicer, but the houses were bigger and cost more) we had a lot of people dropping their brats off in my neighborhood to trick or treat. I went through 5 bags of candy that first year
and only recognized a 10th of the kids that came to my door.

the next year all my enthusiasm was gone and we were actually moving out on Halloween...packing up the truck. Several of the little buggers just ran right into my house and mugged me for candy!! The last thing you expect when you're carrying a massive couch down the stairs is some unknown kid running up the stairs

This year we have a nice house in an OK neighborhood (it's coming up--lots of owner occupied houses where there were previously absentee landlords) not the place you want to drop off your kids and leave...I'm bringing my plants in off the front steps, and keeping some candy in the front vestibule. If I go through the first bag of candy, the light goes off and the blinds get shut. I'm watching my monster movies
