Got an email today from the rescue I volunteer at. They are looking for new fund raising ideas.
Currently they do the jars at business, have a couple of rummage sales, if someone wants to donate stuff-someone will sell it on ebay, aluminum can donations. They do "jean day" at various business's. Candy bar sales too.

In their 1st year of being a non profit they found forever homes for 500 cats!! (they organized as non profit about 15 months ago!!)

So any other ideas that work let me know so I can pass them on!!

They also do pet adoptions at Petsmart so they getting donations on those days.

I will pass along any good ideas!!

Thanks.

Raffles, or something kid related, like best kid/pet picture. A small fee to enter, and that will be like the donation. And some of that money would also go to the winner and possibly kid gets to "work" at the rescue for a day, see behind the scenes.

The kid/pet picture idea sounds like a good one

Our shelter has a day when people can get their pets' photo taken with Santa and charges a fee for that. The money goes to the local shelter...

We also do the pet pics with Santa and it makes them a fair amount of money, we are doing it a few more weekends this year as the demand was so high last year.

We also do a night out, this year it was at the racetrack, if you buy tickets in bulk you can get cheap entry and sell them for a profit. There was also a balloon pop at the track, where local businesses donated prizes and people bought a balloon which they popped and won whatever prize was on the paper inside.

We have days where businesses in the community come in and help out in the shelter, do cleaning etc and the bosses donate the same amount as the wages of the people who do it in return for the news story, which benefits us and them as far as advertising.

A few local businesses do a donation in place of secret santa, all the employees donate the $20 (or whatever amount) they would spend on the secret santa, and in some cases the employer matches it.

They also have enough donations of stuff to run a 2nd hand store rather than sell on ebay, but same kind of thing, you may find more peole will donate items to a 'real place' than not seeing where they go

what about selling the candy that has the subway coupon on it?

reece's cups with a $1 off subway coupon. and I think the candy itself is $1.

the boys used to sell those for school. they were a big hit.

Around my area some of the fast food places and the pizza shops have fund raiser nights. A certain % of the sales of that night goto the organization that they were helping.

Might also try and get a corporate donation from places like Wal-Mart, Target, K-mart, well you get the idea. The rescue will have to fill out some paper work and send the paper work to corporate. Corporate may or may not give some help. usually it is gift cards to the store for supplies. Also corporations only take donation applications a certain time of the month, quarter, or even the year. Usually it is the year so they can plan the budget.
