I just bought my first crockpot and I'm itching to try it out but I only have the recipes that came with the cooker and they don't appeal to me.

Does anyone want to share their favorite slowcooker recipe with me?

The easiest one would probably be to buy some roasting beef, a bunch of veggies like potatoes, carrots, unions, green beens, and slow cook all of those for about 2-3 hours. Also, you might have to ad some water if there isn't enough juices after 30 mins.

Also, granny smith apples, unions, brats, potatoes and I guess whatever else you want to add, is REALLY yummy to cook up. Everything just melts together and tastes great!

Sorry I don't have a recipe per say, our family has never used them! Just cook to taste!

What EnzoLeya said, except I use a blade roast, throw in a bay leaf, and add red wine instead of water...mmm. Wine stew!

Oh pot roast.....

I like this recipe, The original was online, but I changed a few things to perfect it

3-4lb beef joint
1 lge Onion
1 cup beef broth
1 lb carrots sliced
4-5 potatos small pieces no bigger than 2"
1 garlic clove

Cut garlic in half rub al over the beef.
Place beef in a skillet on top of the stove with a bit of shortening and brown all each side.
Add vegetables to the bottom of the crockpot
Add the Beef
Pour on broth

(i love garlic so sometimes I will cut thin slithers and stick them in the beef.)

Cook for 8 hours on

CURRENTLY IN THE CROCK POT
I am cooking my DH's favourite dis, its really easy. (I cant stand beans so I dont eat it)

Beans and Ham with cornbread. this is enough for two people

10oz Dry Great Northern beans
1 tsp of onion powder,
1tsp pepper.
1 pack of diced ham

in the morning:
Check to see if the beans should be pre boiled, I think most do.

Pre boil your beans on the stove top, usually for about 10 minutes,
Put the beans in the crock pot with enough water to cover them,
Add the seasoning. cook on low
Cook all day on low, about an hour before serving add the ham turn the crock pot to high and leave the lid off.
When the beans are so soft they are almost mush the dinner is ready to eat,at this stage I turn back to low and replace the lid I normally make a packet of jiffy cornbread with a tablespoon of sugar added to the mix.

This meal is popular with DH family but I really don't like it....but if you like beans then you will probably like it!

DH will eat the left overs with a burger the following night.

Love my crockpot!

You can use this site to start you off:

Crockpot Recipes

Go to their search box and just type in Crockpot Chicken etc. to get more recipes.

My favourite and easiest one is Salsa Chicken. Grab 4 chicken breasts from the freezer, place them in the crockpot. Pour a jar of your favourite salsa over top of the chicken. Cook for 4-5 hours on low. Then add some cream cheese, black olives, green onion, green pepper and cook for another 1/2 hour.

I usually spice it up some more with cumin, a little tabasco/hot sauce, garlic powder etc. and voila.....it's ready. The easiest recipe to have with a salad and side of rice or egg noodles. Some people even have the leftovers stuffed in fajitas.

I didn't like the recipe when I first read it, but once I made it....yummm.

The easiest one for me is a pound or two of boneless pork chops and 2 bottles of BBQ sauce.

Slow cook for 6-8 hours and its SOOOOOOOOyummy....

Bean Soup is good this time of year.

1pkg of dry beans (I use Hamm's 15 bean mix...throw out the seasonings)
1 pkg cubed ham
2pkgs Polska Kielbasa cut up to bite size
1cup frozen corn
a bunch of chicken or beef broth

Soak the beans overnight. At about 8 or 9 am, start the soup (put everything in the crockpot plus whatever else you want). Cook on low all day, it will be done by supper.

My favorite is crock pot chicken. I think it's in one of those other threads, but I'll post it again anyway.

1 -> 3-4 lb chicken.
seasoning of choice.
butter.

Clean chicken
Butter rubbed on the skin
Season the skin to taste
Put in the crockpot on LOW for 8 hours. Don't go to 10 hours, it gets overdone.

Serve with stuffing, potatoes and a veggie. I also like mine with that jellied cranberry.

Mmmmm, chicken does come out good in the crockpot. It falls off the bone. I have also cooked the chicken, take out the bones and then put in rice to soak up the juice and make chicken and rice.

I have also made a meatloaf in there. It comes out real moist.

I'd love to see the meatloaf recipe!

Here's a beef stew I made last night... YUMMY!

1 lb beef stew meat
1 1/2 cups baby carrots
3 cups butternut squash, cut in chunks
1 large sweet potato, cut in chunks
1 small sweet onion
dash pepper
1 can cream of mushroom soup
1 can beef broth
6 oz. uncooked orzo

Place all ingredients, except orzo, in crockpot along with one can (use the empty can from the soup) of water. Cook on low 7-8 hours. Add the orzo 1/2 hour before serving. Yummy, hearty, healthy, and seasonal!
