Would it be safe to get a tall cat tree? There's a cat tree I'm eyeing because it is 9' tall. We have 2 cat trees and the biggest one we have is 3' tall...... She sometimes will get a bit excited and fall from it so I don't know how safe it would be to get one that is any taller? We also have a box matris that is against the wall in the spare room, it's probably 5ft tall and she will get on that, but doesn't fall off because she can grab on to the cloth around it.

I don't know, what do you think?

If she seems happy with the ones you have, I really would hesitate getting a taller tree. I'd be too afraid of an accidental fall.

I don't have a taller tree, but Damita is up on everything & has yet to fall off. I swear, with how clumsy she is, she has got to be able to fly!

You have a blind kitty too?! Do you think it would be too dangerous to get a taller one. The other two would really love it, but I know there is no way I could keep Leya from climbing right up to the top.

Can a cat get seriously injured from a 8-9' drop? I know they have the tails for a reason and when she falls it's never on her face or back.

Yep. Damita's 8 years old now & been blind for a long time. She may not be 100% blind, but seems like it?

A cat can get injured on a 1' drop if they fall right. So, anything in theory can be dangerous.

I don't know...from watching Damita, my instinct would be to get the tree, thoroughly pad the ground around the area, & watch her love it!
Just because she's blind doesn't mean that she doesn't get to do the same things as other kitties. Damita climbs the drapes as well as any other kitty!

I don't think a cat's ability to right itself in a fall has much to do with vision. It's more likely sense of balance and the inner ear.

I'm glad to hear that people don't think I'm cruel for wanting to get a bigger cat tree. That's great advice about padding the floor benith it. Right now I have a pet bed were she gets a little crazy on the cat tree. She never really falls, rather she hangs on and just sort of lets go when her feet are a few inches off the ground. I could put pillows, or something under the tree.....

Thanks so the great advice everyone!
