Oh my, what next in Portland Maine

I think some of you may have heard that a middle school in Portland Maine has voted to have their clinic be able to give out birth control to students who need it with signed parental consent forms.

1 that just disgusted me, and 2 even scarier - that Maine state law does not state that parents have control over confidentiality when it comes to their kids 'family planning' at any age.

ew.

I think the scarier thing is that I've heard and read that the waivers that are signed are general health waivers. For example, if a student needs to have the school administer ANY drug (OTC, prescription, etc.), the waiver they sign for that covers the birth control issue.

I think it's sick, and I really think the state needs to rework that law. Although I started my period at 9.5 years, I didn't even THINK about birth control until I was in college (for medical reasons, actually).

It doesn't seem like the government thinks that parents should be allowed to be parents anymore.
