Health Issues

It seems like my body is just slowly falling apart. I have several health issues, but one of my main concerns right now is a pain I keep having down in my pelvic area. There has been sharp pain down there for over 2 months now. I had tests done but they were stats and I'm afraid they missed something. Nothing wouldn't be causing this kind of pain!!! It's to a point where it's debilitating. One concern is that 5 years ago when I first met Michael I wasn't having a menstrual cycle. I didn't have one for like a year before I met him. I got on birth control and my cycle came back. In the past few months I've had to get off of birth control because of blood clotting issues...and no cycle again. It just always hurts!! I also have chronic constipation and no matter what medication I try, it will work for a few weeks and just stop. My stomach swells because I get so backed up. I just wish they could figure out what's going on!! For years I haven't felt good. I'm always exhausted and never have any energy. I'm always dizzy and feel like I'm going to pass out. I also always feel so nauseous. I just don't know what to do anymore!!

Have you been to a endocrinologist yet? There are several things that could cause that and only thorough blood tests will start setting you on a path to figure out what may be going on.
Have you always had constipation? There are several medications that cause that as a side effect, so it could be as simple as that if you're on any.

Sounds like IBS-C (constipation.) It can be quite painful.

You poor thing. It sounds very painful and frustrating. If the doctor is telling you they dont know why maybe there is something they are overlooking and think of seeing another doctor. Not all doctors do the same tests. I hope they find you some relief soon.

Have they done a back xray on you? I know that sounds unrelated but your spine actually goes down that far.

If they haven't done a back xray, ask them to. Maybe the problem is your lower vertebrae which wouldn't show up in a gyne exam

The one thing I do know is if your current doctor cannot find the issue, try another one for a second opinion.

I watch this show on Discovery Health channel called "Mystery Diagnosis". I'm surprised how long some of these people let their symptoms go on without a second opinion. One guy was told that he had hemorriods and that's why he bled when he went to the bathroom. for 2-3 years he kept getting misdiagnosed with different things: Hemeroids, IBS, etc and the symptoms kept getting worse. He finally went to a new doctor and turns out that he had a tumor in his upper colon.

So just a word of advice, it never hurts to get a second opinion.

Another vote for a second opinion! I'm sorry you feel so bad.

I've had a colonoscopy a year ago; I recently had an endoscopy on my upper stomach; I've had a MRI on my lower back a year ago; I had an ultrasound on my gallbladder, liver, ovaries, and appendix.

The findings were that I had a slight bulging disk from lifting something too heavy (they told me it was so slight that it would heal itself quickly)

The findings in my colon were a month's worth of stool AFTER I drank all that powder stuff to make me go to the bathroom before the test (they just said I had IBS)

The endoscopy revealed that I had acid reflux from the aspirin I'm taking

Nothing was revealed about my pelvic area that hurts SO bad, and why I'm not having a menstrual cycle.

Do you have children?

My sister does not have a menstrual cycle and they suspected she had polycystic ovaries like my Auntie, but the tests show as negative. She has seen several different types of DR's but they can't come up with anything. She gets constipation too, but I'm not sure if she gets pain as I don't see her much aned know mosts things through my mum.

Whatever it is, I hope the pain goes away. And I hope you get a second opinion and another after that if they don't know. I'll find out more about my sister and PM you if any other similarities crop up. She's only 20, if you don't mind me asking, how old are you? (Or what age range if that is more polite?)

Again I ask, have you been to an endocrinologist? Adrenal, thyroid, diabetes, and pcos are just a few of the problems that can cause you not to have periods. The more worrying thought would be a tumor somewhere...

It might be best for you to make a list of every single health problem you're having, no matter how insignificant it seems and all meds you are on for them, and go to an endocrinologist.

No I haven't. With my insurance I can't go to one unless my doctor will refer me. Right now I have to get through my heart procedure on Monday and then I will focus more on my other health problems. My doctor isn't a very good one, so I'll have to find another primary doctor as well. I've been to the OBGYN when they did tests on my ovaries. They said they looked normal. That test was a stat though and it seemed like she focused more on my right one because that was where the pain was at the time. My pain is not focused on one area, it moves around to either side of my pelvic area. I have also have an ultrasound to see if I had endometriosis and didn't. I think the next step at the OBGYN is for them to take a scope in that region and look around for anything abnormal. Last time I demanded to see a specialist that wasn't recommended to me I had to change doctors. This is all very frustrating because you would think doctors would want to look at every aspect instead of diagnosing me before they even see me.

Some of them don't really know what they're looking at. Your tests and various scans look fine, so they're confused. If it's not their area of specialty they're not as likely to know.

Unfortunately it's up to you to be more pro-active about your health. Start looking up and researching various stuff that matches your symptoms. I'm not saying self diagnose, but know what tests you want to ask your doctors to do and even what type of doctor you need. Harass your PCP or one of your other doctors into getting you a referral. Even an obgyn should be able to refer you, and they probably should have...
You could also try medical university, sometimes they're more up to date or likely to catch things.

Also know that your medical files could say some rotten stuff. I've read of people finding out that their doctors wrote that their health problems were "all in their head" so they kept getting dismissed by other docs. I'm sure you're problems are far from that, so I hope you can find a doctor soon who listens.. and knows what to look for.

I used to work at a doctor's office and I heard that doctor's do that. That's one reason why I had to change doctors. Some doctors just think they know everything in every field and if you question it, then you're crazy. I don't know if she put that in my file, but when I tried to explain that I KNEW something was wrong, she wouldn't listen. After I changed doctors that's when they found the hole in my heart. I truly believe if I was still with the other doctor, I wouldn't be here right now. I don't care what doctors think they know, I know my body more than anyone else. I know that I used to feel fine and normal and I don't anymore. I feel far from it. I think I will start that journal about how I'm feeling. Maybe it will help, maybe it won't...but I have to try anyway.

Exactly that, no amount of medical degrees can make anyone know what you feel. A good doctor will be humbled enough to know that. The journal is a good idea, I wish I had started keeping one years ago. (you know what they say about hindsight though. )

You may want to try looking on different health forums too, healthboards is one. Unlike some it doesn't allow advertising of any kind at all.

You insurance company should have a list of a few different doctors you could see. I couldn't tell you what your problem is, but I really think you should see another doctor if it is that bad.
