Has anyone ever had a vet reccomend that they use Rincinol to help mouth sores in a cat? I'm just curious because my vet just reccomended it for my cat and I can't seem to find anything online mentioning that it is safe for cats. My cat Lola has been very sick with either allergies or a possible immune disease. Since this whole illness started with an allergic reaction to a medicine my vet had me give her for a minor ear infection, I'm very nervous about what I put into her body. I just wanted to know if anyone else has ever used this mouth rinse on their cats before.

Has the vet provided you with a diagnosis?

I'm half wondering...mouth sores...auto immune disease....stomatisis or...shoot...what's the word I want....the allergy to their own teeth/gums?

No, I don't have an official diagnosis yet. She has been to four different vets. At first they thought she had a viral infection because she just had a temperature and red ears. Then they thought she was having an allergic reaction to tresaderm because her face blew up and she got blisters on her ears. When they treated her for the allergic reaction she got better temporarily, but her fever came back and she got a horrible skin infection on her ears. Her nose started to lose pigment as well. I finally got a referrel to a specialist and they did a biopsy on her ears and we are waiting on the results, but they feel it's probably an immune disorder. While I've been waiting her ears started to heal almost overnight. I mean there are still scabs, but no more open sores and skin falling off. She also has been eating on her own and acting pretty normal. They started to think that maybe it was just allergies again. However, she now has a mouth sore and and once again they are wondering about an immune disease. The biopsy results should be back this weekend, so we will see. The vet said that in the meantime while we are waiting this rincinol would help with the sore. I really like this vet and trust her more than the others I've been to, but I'm still a little nervous about giving her anything new.

I've never heard of Ricinol, honestly. So, I've got no advice there. But I really do hope you can figure something out, it's miserable to see our babies like that.

Thanks, it's been a horrible three weeks. I went from having happy healthy 4 year old cat, to not knowing if she will make it or not. She is my first pet, so I started out pretty clueless on how to take care of her properly. I guess I will just call all my different vets and get their opinions before I give it to her. She's come a long way and I don't want to do the wrong thing before we get an answer as to what is actually wrong.

My cats' oncologist recommended using rincinol to sooth the cancer site in his mouth. It does work. His mouth isn't as sore after the Dr. has been checking out the cancer site.

A dormant herpes virus can come out during times of stress.  It can cause ulcers in the mouth.
