My cat Toby has developed this horrible habit of going into my sons room and whining to "alert me" that my son is either waking up or stiring. Often times my son is just moving around, but still asleep. However, with Toby whining at the top of his lungs in my sons room, he wakes up my son. He's never done this before, it just started about 2 months ago. My son is almost 2 and Toby is 3. Why did he start doing this all of the sudden?

He has decided you would like him to report activity on the baby's part. It seems he enjoys watching the baby. Do they get along well?

Ahhh, I know you probably don't want to hear this but thats SO cute! He's just checking up on him. It sounds like he's excited and happy the baby is here and looking out for him as well. There may be a way to simply supervise him with the baby and shush him to be quiet when he meows....hopefully someone else here can share some better advice!

Just be glad he's not doing what my friend's cat did. She would poop ON TOP of the baby bedding every time he cried. Without fail, no matter where he was in the house, the cat would run his room and poop.

Though it may be excessive, it is precious, he is alerting you! I am sure he will calm down with the alerts once he understands the difference between sleepy movement and discomfort of your baby. I would definitely praise your kitty for this, at the same time reassure and help him understand your baby is safe. You never know, he could alert you one night when your son is ill or other potential danger........
