new scared kittend need help!

I've recently got some new kittens, theyre about 12 weeks old and lovely! problem is theyve come from a home with two dogs and loads of other animals. one of them hides under the sofa all the time and only comes out to eat, the other one does pretty much the same but meows all the time. they let me handle them but as soon as i stop they go back into hiding. anyone got an ideas as to how i can reassure them and make them not scared anymore? thanks!

How long have you had them? I got Junior when he was about 7 months and for the first week or so he would stay behind the couch except to feed or snuggle with me. After that, he adjusted to his new surroundings and started exploring and was fine. I don't know whether young kittens take more or less time to adjust to new surroundings.

It takes every cat or kitten different time periods to adjust to a new home. The most important thing to do is to give them their space and not force the issue (I know it's hard when all you want to do is love them!)

You could also try a feliway type diffuser or spray. They sell them at most large pet stores, or can be ordered online. They help to reduce stress and calm cats in a new enviroment.
