I know fleas is everyones first thought. But he doesn't have a single flea on him. I comb him constantly to check. There are no fleas here, I treat them all and comb them all as well. He eats well, he has very healthy, shiny fur, etc. What would you guess the scabs might be? He isn't in contact with other cats at the moment so it isn't result of claws stabbing him during rough play... His food isn't awful but it isn't the greatest. I think I might pick up a small bag of something healthier and see if he might have an allergy to something...

thoughts?

If you are absolutely sure that there are no fleas, then what about an allergy to something else - food or environmental?

Then the next thought woud be a systemic infection - strep or staph can show as a rash.

Good luck.

he is probably about 2-3 years old. He is really healthy just at first glance. He doesn't even iitch himself all that much. Fleas makes the most sense. But I comb him, I am constantly on the search for fleas on all my cats, especially new ones. He has been here about a month, he is one of the cats up for adoption.

could just be dry skin due to the change in weather... Bea gets a mild case of dermatitus every fall, if it's dry enough it could cause kitty to scratch

When Torty and Stumper had little scabs on their heads and necks it was a seasonal allergy to something in the environment. Unlike your cat, though, their skin was itchy and they scratched a lot. I never did determine what they were allergic to but Depo Medrol shots solved the problem. After three or four months and a second shot whatever they reacted to was gone and their were no more problems.

Good luck to you and the kitty in finding a solution to the scabs.
