I don't know about you but when someone takes something simple and makes it difficult for me I go beserk. Last week on the way to his work DH bought a money order at a gas station. Well, we decided we didn't want it and last night after dropping him off at work I stopped in the station to get my money back. The clerk told me that she couldn't give me a refund, a manager had to do it which I don't understand because I've gotten many moneyorders refunded at other gas stations without a manager. I stopped back in this morning after picking DH up figuring the manager would be in and she wasn't. Again I was refused a refund.
Well that did it and I went off and said some not nice things and scared my husband. It would not be such a big deal but this station is not close to my house and I can't afford the gas to drive there if it's not on the way. The manager will be gone by the time I take DH to work tonight. The good news is, I went to a gas station close to home where I frequent and spoke with their manager. She said she would call and talk to the other manger and that when I stop in there tonight someone will cash it for me. Do you think it's wrong to get so irate about something like that?

Nope!!! I would have done the exact same thing. That person could have gotten the managers ok and cashed it for you. Sounds like she did not feel like doing her job.

Not at all! You go for it!
After all, that is fairly stupid of them saying that. Stupid people. Most people do act stupidly and say ''you'll have to speak to the manager'' about little things.
The other day my mom was trying to get the internet working, but they said they had to speak to my dad who was at work. He said to them to speak to mom if anything else comes up, but every other time we rang, they always asked to speak to him as she wasnt authorised or something like that!

Talk about irratating!

I must confess that I have taken my frustrations out on the wrong person at times and that is what you did in this case IMO. I understand your frustration but the clerk doesn't make the policy.

If the part of who the money order was to be made was NOT filled in, then why not just fill in your own name and cash it?

I don't understand why you couldn't do that - its not a refund, its a money order - they would have just given you the money.

Since Money orders are the same as cash, really the other gas stations were not following their protocol more than likely if a non-manager refunded the cash.

Policies and protocols are starting to become the norm (thanks to our Patriot Act) and many organizations are being cracked down for not following protocol.

Money orders are also easily forgeable, so asking for a refund for one technically should be approved by a manager.

I was told all they have to do is drop it as a check. The manager at the gas station I frequent even appolozied for the inconvinence. She said it shouldn't have been a problem.

I'll get off my soap box now.
