As I am sure most of you have heard by now, southern California is under a huge fire storm. Luckely I am not in danger as of yet but I will keep you up to date. Its been hot, in the 80-90's plus gust up to 30 miles an hour. Last I heard on the news its blowing west and shows no signs of stopping. Somewhere between 190,00-250,000 people have been evacuated. There is somewhere around 7-12 fires burning out of control. Lives have been lost and so have many homes. The smoke is horrable, its getting really hard to breath. I just don't know what to say, please pray that we get some relief and that the winds let up so the firefighters can get all the fires under control.

Here is the latest from the AP

My sister lives in San Diego near the Miramar Naval Airbase. She's got her car packed with her valuables and kitty paraphernalia and her kitty, Missy, locked in the bedroom so she can be put in her carrier easily if they get an evacuation notice. My friend who lives in Lakeside is packed and ready to evacuate with his wife and 8 kitties.

This is SO very frightening. You are all in my prayers...

You guys are all in my thoughts and prayers. A friend of mine has already evacuated with her kitties. It makes me so sad to see this on the news. We lived in Orange County for a year, it was just beautiful out in southern California.

Sending lots and lots of {{{{protection prayers and vibes}}}} to Southern California, esp. San Diego. My grandson lives about 1 mile from Qualcomm Stadium, where an evacuation shelter is, so he should be safe. My uncle lives in Temecula, in the hills, so I need to add him to our TCS list.
What yanks my chain is that the developers are able to continue building to those fire-prone areas not caring about the dangers of future residents, esp. those not familiar with California's intense fire-storm history...All those poor pets who will be lost
All those poor families who will lose what they have - it is HEARTWRENCHING....

Ventura County in LA is affected too, they have a big fire in Malibu but the real problem is San Diego.

Here are a few links to more stories and a few maps that show just how big it really is.

Tha latest from Fox 6 news, the biggest fires are talked about plus a time table, updated at 705 pst

http://www.fox6.com/news/local/story...3-436456214c3c

A small slid show, the first is a map of all the fires, the second is an action shor and the last picture shows the fires and the evacuation areas, each color coded, fire is red next is mandatory and then current voluntay too possable mandatory.

If you have friend here please do not call them on their cells, use land line. The Mayor is asking to keep all cell use for emergencies only.

Some of the other fires in SOCAL,

Notrh of LA to the border of Mexico

Well, it is winter in SOCAL, most places get snow or rain, we get fires.

I was just watching that on the news and wondering if any members here could be in danger! My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone affected and those that are battling the wildfires. for a good steady rain to help put them out!

I used to live in San Diego, and also Santee, which is about 20 miles west of San Diego. There was a bad fire not too far away from Santee while we were living there, and it came awful close to where we lived. I remember the smoke & ashes in the air, and how dark it got from the smoke - it seemed like nighttime during the day b/c of the smoke & ashes, and the ashes were falling down like snow - it was really creepy.
The schools closed down, and we were on evacuation standby. I'd never want to go through that again..
That, I think, was even worse than going through Hurricane Rita..

My heart goes out to y'all, and I'll be praying & sending good vibes your way.

Thank you for your vibes.

Was it back in 2003 when the Ceder Fire happened that you were living here?
So far the news has stated that the fires now make the fire them look like a fire in a fireplace.
We where talking, where we live is between the Harris fire and the Witch Fire. It they both move fully west, like the are expectid to the only place they have to go is north and south. We lay right in between.

So far only one of the eight fires is contained. The one that is contained is only 5% contained. The other 7 are 0% contained and burning out of control. A large part of the problem is we do not have the man power to fight it. Gov. Swartsenager(sp) has called out hte Natianal Gaurd(1500) plus we are now using inmates from correctional facilities to help fight this.

I am truly scared as to what could happen. I am afraid to go to sleep for fear that in the morning I will recive a reverse 911 call telling me to leave my home. If the winds don't change we are, well, scr$wed. The winds are blowing west, hard. The only thing west of us is ocean. We have no where to go. Fire to the north, fire to the south, fire to the east. For the last 24 hours not one show other than news coverage has been on.

I am scared to death right now.
