Whats a Kotatsu?

I got a couple of PM's, and replies in my "weirdest things" post, asking what my Kotatsu is. Since several people where interested, I decided to post a "reassembled" picture now that I'm all done with the cleaning.


This is my Kotatsu. The cats have just finished dinner and are headed under the Kotatsu because the little heater underneath is on, and it's nice and toasty under there




They especially love the seating pillows

I used to live in Japan and Miko loved the kotatsu!
Though not when it was on, because then it was too hot.

But when it was off, she'd sit under it, on the cushions, for hours.

I was having a hard time pronouncing it, so I googled it as well. I dunno, looks cozy to me, esp. if you're a kitty!

Sounds wonderful for those cold days. But it's too low for me. Wonder if I can do it with a regular height table...
