Hello,

Over the summer I bought a 4 foot hybiscus that's been outside until the past week. I brought it in and one of the cats is using it as a little box!
I'm about to take it outside and give the roots a good watering and maybe repot it. Anyway, I was thinking about wrapping aluminium foil around the base of the trunk and around the lip of the pot. But that's so unattractive. Does anyone have any suggestions? Also, is Nature's Miracle safe to spray on plant roots?

Thanks for any help!

I don't think it would be a good idea to spray the natures miracle on the roots. If it were me, I would shake off as much dirt (off the roots) as possible, and maybe spray them gently with cool water. Then repot the whole thing. The only thing the ended up keeping my cat out of the planters was to buy those glass marble things from Walmarts craft department. They sell all different sizes. They are kept with the artificial plants and vases. I just put a bunch in there on top of the soil. I don't think cats like the feeling of them on their feet.
Another plus to this is it helps to hold the moisture in the plants soil.

The glass beads are a fabulous idea! When we tried to have a plant (we had to get rid of it because even though it wasn't harmful to him, Shelly would not give up trying to eat it), we bought some material to wrap around the base of the trunk and let it hang down around the pot to cover up the foil we had underneath. That worked and looked nice. But the plant didn't work out.

Thanks for the responses! The marbles are a great idea! I still don't trust the cat though, lol! Only because she's extremely old and sometimes doesn't seem to know what she's doing. I didn't even think to cover the foil with a nice fabric or something. Great ideas!

Bea did that a lot, to ALL my plants. I tried the foil thing but she would just kick it out of the way and at te very least , kick all the dirt out.

I eventually bought decorative stones for all the indoor plants. (just like the marble idea) they look really nice and she hasn't mssed with any of my plants since.
