Cryogenics + Paris Hilton

Yes, when Miss Hilton passes on, she wants to freeze herself, and her two chihuahas. She says it is cool, she can live for thousands of years and leave a mark on the world.

Has anyone being brought back? Not that i've ever heard of
Ever thought about WHY people die in sub zero temperatures out in the wilderness? When liquid freezes, it expands and re-arranges itself, and even though apparently the liquid in the body is replaced, the water in any cells left over in the organs will still be there, and they will explode, and nothing will work.

Why do rich people spend so much money on this, when it hasn't actually been scientifically proven to work? This PRESERVES the body, not life. It isn't exactly the same as putting paddles on a flat liner and shocking them back onto the earthly plane. I think especially for sick people, it is giving them false hope. And whenever or if ever they do someone come back to this earth without brain damage, half of their family will have passed on as well, and they will be all alone and have to start life all over again. People should pass on naturaly.

Any comments on this?

Science is literally blurring the definition of death everyday. What was considered "clinically dead" yesterday is just "unconscious" today. There are even surgical procedures that "kill you" and then they "bring you back to life" several hours later, especially useful in anurism surgeries. They chill your body to the point where cell death slows to a stop, your heart automatically stops beating, and they hold you at that temperature. When they start warming you up, your heart automatically starts beating again.

Having worked in a lab for over 5 years, deep freezing cells and thawing them out was almost a daily task. The technique isn't perfect in that almost 90% of the cells die, but 10% of those cells come out fine, and these are cells that have been in deep freeze for months.

Theoretically if you use a more advanced form of cryostat, you can replace all the water in your body with it, deep freeze yourself, reverse the cryostat/water process and thaw out fine. No water means no expansion/crystallization and no damage to your tissues.

My theory on why people are so squeamish when it comes to cryostasis is that it might touch on religion. Yes you are dead in cryostasis, so while you're dead do you commune with a superior being that supposedly created you and the world? Or is it just black nothingness? If someone can die, and be brought back to life, will they be able to tell what lies beyond death? They'll be able to answer that most fundamental human question.

If humans are ever to colonize space, attaining some form of biological stasis technology will be mandatory. Heck, if you're rich and you leave all your money in bank accounts and stocks, imagine how much interest you could earn by just sleeping for a hundred years.

Great! Just what we need! To have someone unfreeze her in 1000 years and end up thinking that we're all a bunch of bimbos!

I never understood the fascination with getting frozen when you die. Most people die when they're pretty old... and the freezing isn't going to make them younger. Assuming it can work (doubtful!), they'll get thawed in a thousand year so that they can die of old age a few years later.

Oh wait... maybe Paris wants to get frozen now.
That could work.

they would just stick her back in, to shut her up.

Hopefully when they come out with the technology to bring someone frozen to death back to life, they will have a cure for brain deficiencies as well . . .

I doubt it. It would be cool if it really worked exactly how they say it does, but I am not holding my breath. . . I have decided when I die I am going to be mummified and put in a great golden mask and burried in a sarcophagus somewhere nice. . . End of story. . .

Ummm...what's the point of being frozen AFTER you are dead? Thawing out won't bring you back- you're already DEAD! Not the same thing but wouldn't it make more sense to be put into some sort of suspended animation while you are still alive?

Paris Hilton should freeze herself now. While she's at it she should take her little friends with her. That way we could rid ourselves of their stupidity.

But but but, then they have to pull you brain out your nose, and then eviscerate you.

I think when I die, I'd like them to drop me in some ocean crevasse and maybe in a couple million years when that area of the ocean gets pushed up above sea level, some future society will find my bones and announce "this piece of land MUST have been above sea level before since we found evidence of terrestrial life!" and cause a big ruckus in the scientific community

I know it, but I will be dead. . . i wont feel it, and I wont need them where I am going.

Although your idea does sound like loads of fun!

p.s. they would have to bury you in the sand. . . if they left out out floating around, you would disintegrate. . .

Hahaha, I had this funny image. They'd put like cement blocks on my feet and drop me down, and I'd sink slowly into the mucky ocean floor standing upright. And then when they find me, I'll be upright, and they'll wonder "woah, this dude died standing upright!"

no they would say "I wonder who he pissed off. . . Hey look, Jimmy Hoffa!"

It's all very amusing, but we seem to have gotten a long way away from cryogenics and whatshername....

Think we could return to the topic?

Aww but I was having fun reading Lemur and NoRachelHere's conversation. Its bringing up great images in my head. I couldn't care less about Paris.

Gosh this makes me think of the movie Idiocracy. Did anyone see it? Luke Wilson is in it and he is frozen as a part of some experiment and when he id brought back, everyone on earth is a complete idiot. It is hilarious.

This is the movie description from imdb.com
"Private Joe Bauers, the definition of "average American", is selected by the Pentagon to be the guinea pig for a top-secret hibernation program. Forgotten, he awakes 500 years in the future. He discovers a society so incredibly dumbed-down that he's easily the most intelligent person alive."

http://imdb.com/title/tt0387808/

I recommend it to anyone who needs a good laugh.

I want to see that movie.

Why, oh why do we care what Paris thinks or does.

I often think its funny to see anything about celebrities in IMO..who really cares?

I have never even heard of this freezing yourself thing...do people actually do that!?!??

The Woody Allen comedy Sleeper comes to mind...

Paris is SUCH an ijit.

Someone really ought to whisper in her ear that NOW is the best time for freezing: fresh frozen is the oxymoron term, I believe...

Seriously, I think it would be very sad to be frozen (while alive) and thawed out many years later when no one you love is still alive.

Yeah, but you could be a glorified delivery boy who gets to ride around in a cool space ship and be best friends with a robot bending unit who gets a bad case of 5 o'clock rust when he doesn't drink.

That's all we need, silly little rich twits that figure out how to live forever. I'm sure she'll make a lasting contribution to the human race-which would surprise me if it lasted that long.
Hey, wait, that's an interesting thought... Paris Hilton, alone on a devastated planet with her mirror.
There's hope for us after all!
Oh, that's great! I want to get frozen now too, just so I can be there when then unfreeze her.
