Weird change in behavior after inner ear infection

My 7 year old female himalayan got an inner ear infection from a case of ear mites a few weeks ago. We took her to the vet and they treated her for it and we're still medicating her with drops and we just finished off the anti-biotics.

Before the infection, she refused to eat canned food. Now, it's the complete opposite, she wants canned food and refuses to eat her dry food. I can deal with that, but she thinks she is hungry all the time. So she constantly whines all day asking for canned food, even so much as digging through the trash to get to the empty cans.

She's also stopped using the litter box. She's going on the floor and a couple times used the bathtub as a litter box.

I have two other male cats who didn't get mites, and their behavior hasn't changed in general or their interaction with her.

It's been going on for a week. I know she isn't hungry because we feed her plenty of the canned food she wants.

The vet bill was expensive because she required hospitalization for a few days, and I can't really afford to take her back at the moment. Any ideas? Could there be another condition that the vet overlooked? Her constant complaining about the food is driving us up the wall.

Thanks.

I would certainly call the vet and tell them what is happening. If you paid mega-bucks a week ago and this is happening they should be able to help you out. Her behaviour certainly is something to be concerned about. It's possible she picked up some virus/illness while she was at the vet.

Talk to them at least and if there are going to be additional charges they'll probably be able to work with you to arrange some kind of payment. I'd be inclined to wonder though if it's not something she has picked up while in their care.

She does need to be seen again.

I don't know if a cold/virus would cause the sudden preference for wet food, unless it has to do with it being easier to eat and smellier.
As for her eating more, maybe she just feels better and has more of an appetite because of it?
