What do I do? I have had my cat for about 6 months now. Her letter smells terrible. I empty it about twice a day, I clean the entire box top to bottom every other week. I have noticed its much worse when i give her wet food but its still bad even with dry food. I have taken her to vet and they say there is nothing wrong. Any advice???

I may be the type of litter you are using. I know at the shelter where I volunteer they use a cheap clay litter and the boxes do smell pretty rank. I bought them some WBCL (World's Best Cat Litter) to use in the kitten rooms since I don't like the little ones to be around the clay litter (too dusty and if they eat it that can cause clumps in their tummies that could possibly require surgery). Since they have been using the WBCL, the kitten rooms and litter smell 100% better. So much better in fact that they have started getting the better litter for the overflow room next to the office to keep the odour down in that room and it's working.

It may also be the food you are giving her. I recently switched our cats to better quality food and their litter hardly has an odour at all and only when they first use the litter, i.e., similar to our own human bathroom immediately after use. In fact, I scoop once per day, add a couple of cups of new litter every 4-5 days and only completely clean out the whole box about every 6-8 weeks.

You may still find their poo smells a bit during the changeover but once their system gets used to the new food that will change and get better.

You also know, I'm sure, that you need to switch dry food over gradually, like over a period of about 2 weeks by adding a bit of the new to the current food and adding a bit more of the new each day until you have switched completely. That too will depend on your cat. I've been successful at switching our 2 over to a new dry immediately with no diarrhea or other problems but they are the exception rather than the rule. Wet food doesn't normally need to be switched gradually.
