So I go to a dentist for the first time in about 4 years because I had this little notch developing at the base of one of my teeth. So he does this super in depth first time patient thing with x-rays and probing and electronic detectors and what not, and then tells me "well, you could use a bit of a cleaning, and you have 3 or so tiny cavities, but overall your teeth are in pretty amazing condition for not having seen a dentist in 4 years". And then I goes "what about this 2mm notch in my tooth?", and he goes "oh that? quit brushing so hard".
About the last thing I expected him to say.

Haha, that was about the same reaction I had, I said "oh for reals?". He told me brushing too hard can lead to the gums receding and when the soft roots get exposed you can actually start abrading it away. Told me to brush gentler and in a up and down motion more than scrubbing sideways to prevent that.

WOW! That is soo lucky! Maybe that's what's on one of my teeth. I always forget to ask, lets hope I'm as lucky as you!

Wow that is great! My DH just went to the dentist after 5 years of not going and they just had to do a major brine to clean them but no cavities. I wish I was that lucky.

I hate the dentist. This summer, I had to have all 4 wisdom teeth out (3 were impacted) and then I got dry socket from it and 2 weeks ago I had a root canal which took 3 hours to do. No cavities though.

My dentist actually showed me a better way to brush my teeth and I like it so much better than the way I used to brush.
