This is Jesse, my vicarious cat.
My mom adopted him last month. His foster mom found him late last winter, extremely emaciated and near death from starvation and an abcess on his head --- not that you'd know it now
His foster mom did a great job nursing him back to health (maybe a little too great as he's a bit chunky now).
We always had cats in the house when I was growing up, but Mom is very much a dog person and you could have knocked me over with a feather when she asked me to help her find a cat to adopt! She doesn't believe in keeping dogs in an apartment, but wanted company at night. Luckily, Jesse is a very dog-like cat in temperment. He plays fetch, is a total lap cat and always wants to be close by his new mom. Oh, and he's quite the opposite of finicky. We've got him off free-fed dry Science Diet and onto a canned diet of Wellness and Eagle Pack. Whatever you put in front of him, he's going to hoover it and look for more
I haven't had a cat in years as I have a very prey-driven Border Terrier, but I'm at my Mom's house every day which is why Jesse is my "vicarious cat". I think he's absolutely gorgeous, and I can assure you that I am completely unbiased
