Funny how I grew up never liking cats, to a point i hated them and thought they were all evil and also I never liked boys ...well human boys and always said if I had kids, i would have all girls!

well look at me now ...eating my words! I've adopted 2 cats this year and they both are boys! One is from the humane society and another from petsmart. I didn't plan to get a 2nd kitty but I just couldn't resist the sad little eyes!

They both are tabby...Gizmo is 6months and Milo is 8 weeks.

Gizmo is getting neutered soon! he is going for his prep. Is this a good idea? Or is it just a bogus cost by the vet?

Sorry I can't help you with your question. Our boy cat came to us already neutered, so I didn't have to consider the issue of him being prepped. The girls were all neutered and just went to the Vets on the big day, had their surgery then came home. But we may do things differently here in the UK.

Welcome! You will love your boys! We have two boys and one girl. The boys are really a kill.

I'm not sure what the vet is doind by "prepping" really all the prepping you need is to make sure your cat doesn't eat 12 hours prior to the surgery. It's dangerous for them to have anything in their tummy. You'll have to tell me what they told you about prepping him.

Thank you for the warm fuzzy welcome :-)

I just came back from the vet and the "prep" was to do bunch of tests, like liver, kidney, etc. Just wondering if I 'spend' the money ($85) in something worthwhile or just down the drain? Plus they tried to recommend to do aids and leukemia (?) test which I declined ($100 extra for that! whoa!) for cats who are stray or something.

sometimes i wonder about vets....is it just a business to them?

my big boy gets his balls cut off this Friday! LOL no food from 8pm Thursday. He is gonna be so cranky!

The tests and the costs seem reasonable. My vet is not one to recommend spending more, just keeping the pets healthy and we had all of those tests for our RIP Brownie and current cat Butzie.

Not sure if would worry about prep (other than the food). I would worry more about after. Butzie was spayed when we got her but we neutered Brownie. Brought him home after, put him on the bed, he went "MEOW!" and conked out for most of the day but was just fine. You have to watch them after- follow the vet's instructions. Wish the best for you and your boys

Our internet server is down so you don't get to see my signature picture now. Don't know what they are doing

Oh! Welcome to the site and the best to you and your boys!
