I have 32lbs of cat (divided unequally between two cats), the label on my bag o' cat food (Royal Canin Urinary SO) says, by nearest approximation (since the bag doesn't go up to 32#, or even up to the weight of the big'un), that I should be feeding my cats 3 cups of food a day. I feed them both barely over 1 cup a day, and have since well before the vet put them on this food (one had urine crystals). I continue to have 32# of cat, including an awful lot of extra belly.

I can't imagine how much cat I would have if I gave them 3 cups a day.

You are supposed to feed to the PROPER wt of the cat ... NOT the actual if overwt ... lol , i came accross this just today at work , my label only gives up to 20

Do make sure they get ENOUGH , sometimes they gain if not feed enough do go into starvation mode

Ok, by proper weight they should get ~2 2/3 cups

I don't think they are in starvation mode (I've fed ~1 cup of food for the two for years). It takes them both about 2-4 hours after I feed them to clean their bowls. I'm just pointing out the severe disparity between what the labelmakers think, and reality.
