Just wondering.... if I get Ziggy spayed will her milk dry up? Pixie is the only one who takes little 'snacks' off her now and again. The others seem fully weaned.

Shall I get her spayed anyway as Pixie eats VERY well off the solid food?

She's just gone into heat and is driving me NUTS. And I know that SO will let her out if she gets on his nerves too much. I don't want another litter of kittens!! How long do heats last?

Heats can last up to 3 weeks. I would book an appointment to be spayed this week if you can. It will cost a little more if she's in heat, but better to do it now then to risk her getting pregnant again.

How old are the kittens?

Ok, then mom should be spayed. The milk will dry up. At 8 weeks they should be eating a lot more solid foods then nursing. I've had moms nurse up to 3 months, but usually about 8-9 weeks they stop.

Yeah I thought it would be okay. Like I said its only Pixie who occasionally nurses.

Thanks... pay day on the 26th October, I'll do it then

I have had cats spayed and they continued to nurse as long as kittens were suckling. I added a few kittens on to her occasonally because she took good care of them and continued to produce milk.

Sylvie has been spayed for a month now, and Isabel who is 3 months now still nurses off of her.

I am so glad to have read this thread! Our kittens are 8 weeks old and I would love to get the mom spayed. I am in the same situation as sadieandziggy. The mom is in heat and driving us crazy. She even seems annoyed with the kittens. I was ready call to make an appointment tomorrow, now I know I will!
