I have been sick since wednesday and last night I called in even though the night before I was sick at work and the nurse heard me getting sick she wouldn't send me home. Well now I have to go to the doctor before I can go back to work. I have a stomach virus and its let up alot and I hate to go to the doctor because they charge $75 just to walk in the door. and I am not as sick as I was yesterday although I am still a little nautius. I already know what the doctor will say and that is that I have a common stomach virus and its almost ran its course and its to far to treat. So it will be a wasted trip and doctor bill.

Sorry you aren't feeling well. It could be that nasty "Norwalk" virus

http://www.lambtonhealth.on.ca/communicable/norwalk.asp

Since you work in a nursing home and the nurse knew you were sick, I'm surprised she didn't take steps and send you home pronto! That virus is highly contagious and spreads like wild fire. Half of the wards in the hospital I work at (large teaching one) were closed about 4 years ago due to that virus and were put made into isolation wards for weeks and weeks. It was awful! Before it became an epidemic in our hospital I ended up catching it and I don't ever recall being that sick and it was the first time I had thrown up in at least a dozen years.

Thank God for the NHS over here. If it cost me money to go to the doctor I would be VERY poor.

Sorry to hi-jack but.... If a child is under 18, do they get free healthcare?

Adults have to pay for prescriptions but not for consultations, or for operations and stuff

Sorry your not feeling well...

Oh, I hope you feel better soon! I've been sick on my birthday once and 4 times for Christmas.
Drink plenty of fluids! Maybe it can help you flush out the virus and keep you hydrated if you're throwing up.

Poor you. I think it is ridiculous and dangerous to keep you in work when you're feeling like that. I had that virus a couple of years ago when I was working in a hospital and they wouldn't let me return to work until I was at least 48 hours clear of vomiting and diarrhoea. I still say to this day it was the sickest I have ever been

Well I went to the doctor and they put me off work until after Tuesday because they said I was a danger to my patients at the nursing home which I already knew and they gave me a prescription for phenigrin to try and keep me from vomitting. So maybe I will get to feeling better.

Hope you feel better soon! Drink lots of water, so you stay hydrated, and eat salted crackers which can not only help settle your stomach but the salt will help you stay hydrated too.
