I forgot the way to say it

When you try to say this expression to someone "I don't want to add more pain to the pain that you already have"

So the expression goes like "I don't wanna put salt on your wounds" or something like that (that's just amateur expression that I just made up)

Anyone knows how the real expression goes like?
I need it for something that I'm trying to write

Thanks

Yeah, I've just at this moment googled and found: Rub salt in the wound - that might the one?

That's not the one I'm thinking of. I always take that one as meaning to purposely add pain, not like where you have to tell someone bad news even though you dont want to.

I know I only can't remember it because I want to!

I keep coming up with "not to add fuel to the fire" but that doesn't seem quite right!

Maybe if I just type some of the ones I am coming up with it'll help you:

Not to add fuel to the fire...

Not to rain on your parade...

Not to burst your bubble...

Not the be the bearer of more bad news....
