She's an only child.
Could be instinct. Tiger used to do the same thing... even before the brats and Tonka came along

Sounds like there were too many cats where she was before and had to fend for food.
It is a natural instinct to try to bury their food to save it for later. No matter if they have been out in the wild or not. We have two cats that do this...one was a stray for a bit and the other was not.

Some of my kitties do that too, and they've never had to fend for their food. I was told once that the cats that are higher in rank will "hide" the food so that no one will steal it. Don't know if that's true or not. Could be just a quirk I guess!
