When i was growing up and hunting with my uncles, You would hear panthers
scream yell whatever it is they do, almost sounds like a women screaming.

lol when its 4 in the morning and pitch black in the middle of the woods hours from people, and your sitting under a tree, at the age of 15 all alone that is one scary sound.

The neighbors' dogs, birds (sadly, no owls--I miss that sound), a groundhog (no sound), rabbits (again, silent!) and believe it or not, a BOBCAT in back of the fence in our very tiny backyard! We live in a huge development; all the lots are very tiny, yet I know I heard the bobcat about 3 weeks ago. I know what they sound like, as my Mom's house had 1 or 2 I would hear at night--she has a huge field in back, bordered by a cow pasture. My friend, who lived a few streets away, also hears them, and has actually seen them in her yard. Mom also has deer, fox, and owls. Boy, do I miss them! I hate the property I live on now; I wish we had more space. I live on .13 of an acre! I went from 1 1/4 acres to this.

Today, I again saw the tortie kitty who sometimes comes around in our yard. Even though he's not neutered, I don't think he's a stray. I "talked" with him through the window, then he ambled off, stopping to mark his scent on my fence.

Hmmmm,let's see...

crickets, jarflies (very annoying!), tree frogs and those lovely bull frogs, hawks, eagles, owls, foxes, raccoons, horses, cows and bulls, crows, cowbirds, wild turkey, goats, coyotes, peckerwoods, etc. And of course, coonhounds! I couldn't stand living in the city again! It would be waaaay too quiet!

Do small children count?

Mostly the neighborhood dogs and crickets. We either have holy screens or no screens on our windows so we haven't opened them up at all. I'm sure we'd hear birds as well...we wake up to seeing Luna and Whitey staring through the blinds of the windows.

Usually, I just hear the usual Robins and Sparrows, but once in a blue moon, I'll hear a....flock?...of bats fly over the house, LATE at night...It's kinda spooky. =D Oh, and then there's the occasional feral cat fight....>_>'

Nothing now but an occasional cat fight or dog barking.

In Oklahoma though, I used to hear coyotes and an occasional bobcat all the time.

A very loud frog that lives somewhere by the neighbors pool

Mourning Doves, I love their cooing
Screech Owl after midnight
Woodpeckers
Yellow finch, they have the sweetest song
Nuthatches
Crows
Pigeons
Canadian Geese
Seagulls

Squirrels
Raccoons
Deer, I don't really hear them, I just see the flowers they eat every night
Turkeys
Woodchucks

Neighborhood dogs, with Tasha the Pug yapping the most.
I live in a village, we have a very small yard and are close to our neighbors, but lots of wildlife all around in the woods and by the river.

We have 2 beautiful loud blue jays that come to our bird feeders everyday. We have 6 cooing doves who hang out in our backyard. 2 pesky squirrels are always chasing each other trying to win the bird feeder. We have lots of Juncos, Chickadees, Sparrows, Blackbirds...our backyard is a safe hang out for a variety of birds & small animals. Feels great to feed them & see them everday

Feral cats, squirrels, raccoons, and the occasional bird. There's not much nature here.

Where I grew up you'd get the random deer, not very often a snake, tons of crickets and locusts, hundreds of birds... we were on the flight plan for the annual migration of grackles and once a year I'd get off the school bus and teh yard (about an acre and a half) would be black with them. As I grew up there were fewer and fewer and fewer until finally now you can't tell which day it is.

My high school was next door to a llama farm though, I remember their calls better than most.

During the day I hear the workman making lots of noise, renovating my apartment buidling, sirens, people talking, and birds. At night I hear sirens, cars with loud bassy stereo's, dogs barking, and feral cats fighting.

Aw gee, Hope - you need to take a vaca in the sticks and come visit us. The silence would probably drive you crazy!

Semi feral boy -that adopted me, he follows me around the yard whining. (maybe he's still complaining about being neutered?
)
Coyotes -at dusk
Mocking birds -all the time, these birds do not sleep.
Grackles -there was a huge flock of them in the yard the other day
Mourning Doves
Toads and Frogs -in warmer months
Cattle -making all sorts of horrible noises.

Neighbor's chihuahua, because they won't keep the thing on a leash and it has to run over into our yard and bark at me..... I've had to call Max down 3 times now. I really do not want to see what an angry, territorial 14lb cat can do to a tiny chihuahua.

Another neighbor's horse, poor thing is all alone out there and no one really spends time with it.
Neighbors themselves, building stuff, kids playing at the nearby school, etc.

And the usual insects - grasshoppers, katydids, cicadas, crickets and mosquitoes.

We also have a pair of skunks. I never hear them, of course.. but they do like to pop out and scare me, run towards me, ...come to "kitty kitty kitty".
And no, they're not rabid. They're just used to us.

This time a year just regular birds (have no idea what kind, maybe sparrows. I hear the occasional dog barking if someone is walking their dog along the river walkway. I also hear the occasional squirrel

In the spring and summer I hear more dogs because more people get out walking their dogs along the river. I also hear lots of geese and ducks because they nest on the river near my apartment building. I also hear crows or something similar. and some frogs and more squirrels.

I live in suburban neighborhood so we don't get many of the big wild animals. We do have coyoties go down my street every morning. Occasionally we have opposums and raccoons in my backyard. There are a lot of dogs barking and some owls in the park accross the street.
