I've always noticed that Popsie's fur on his back down by his tail will turn a rusty brown in the fall. I'm wondering if this happens to any of your animals.

Usually black cats will "rust" out if exposed to a lot of sunlight. I won't hurt anything and will change back to the right color next shedding.

Sometimes he'll lay in a sunny spot on the floor but I haven't seen him do it latley. He's an indoor cat so I don't think it would be from the sun. I could be wrong though.

I've only ever noticed it with b&w kitties we've had in the past. I think it's also the type of light and angle that hits them

I haven't really noticed a color change with our domestic cats, except for Aurora who appears to turn a little dark in the winter and lighter in the summer. However, our bobcats and cougar do change colors with the summer and winter season. Amber and Nakoma are a beautiful orange in the summer and turnn a brown/grey in the winter. Boris is an orange/brown in the summer and turns a grey/silver in the winter. Carmelo is also orange in the summer and will turn more tan/brown in the winter. The bobcats and cougar also put on a lot of weight during the winter and will drop weight in the summer
