I checked out a great cookbook from the library called Roadfood Sandwiches-I'm gonna have to buy this book!!
Is has recipes for various types of sandwiches from mom and pop type places across the US

So it got me thinking... want are some of you favorite types of sandwiches or other food items specific to the area you live??? Not the chain food stuff (unless its a chain local to your area???)

In Wisconsin we have "brats" (bratwurst) which know come in various flavours than just pork or beef-like pizza, onion, cajun etc.....
The best come from smaller butcher shops which everyone has their preferences. Of course you have to have some cheese curds freshly made
of course-this is cheese that hasn't been pressed into blocks yet. Beer batter deep fried the absolute best!!

What do I have to try in your area?????

Hmm...what does Florida have...or at least the south east? Hmmm...I guess we have pretty good seafood at the diners! I have only been to a few diners, but ones closer to the beach serve EXCELLENT and fresh seafood sandwhiches! My favorite is a good fried/grilled Mahi Mahi sandwhich...with a side of authentic cuban tostones! Yum!

I'm from South Florida. You can get GREAT Cuban sandwiches down here! It's ham, pork, cheese (I think it's provolone or some kind of mild, white cheese), pickles and yellow mustard. They put it on Cuban bread (which is a little sweet) and then press it to heat it and smush everything together. Delicious!!!

We have pasties in our area! They are yummy!
You've probably tried them GailC

They have an outer flaky crust filled with diced meat, potatoes, & onions...

This thread is making us hungry - everything sounds so delicious!

Hmmm not sure we're known for anything here

Seems to be the same stuff I got in Oklahoma (more crab and fish) but there are definitely things I had there, but can't get here.

Does Chili Cheese Fries count for the side?! (Michigan)

The U.P Michigan is known for pasties (pah-steez). Whatever they are...I never had any.

The was a Quibys in Lansing that would put green olives and mayo on a hamburger. That was a long time ago and I'm not sure if I Have the name right. I loved it though...they went out of business.

Around here our regional foods include

- Beaver tails (basically pizza dough fried and then toped with things like brown suggar and cinnimon)

- Poutine (trench fries with cheese curds and gravey)

- Maple syrup products (candy, fudge etc)

Darn you people. I haven't had pasties in about 10 years and miss them.

About the only think I can think of that's Oklahoma only is Braums, which is a chain - ice cream, dairy, and some fast food. There are also imported Mexican brands and foods in some stores that weren't available up north.

I make my own pasty's and I cheat by using frozen bread dough instead of making my own!!

There was an brief section and a recipe for brain sandwiches (I'll pass)!
