i live in ontario canada.
i have 5 cats, 2 boys and 3 girls (1 recently had kittens ans some of you probs know) and i have always wondered why the girls are soooo mean. the only friendly female cat i have is skunk, and i also have her mother, mic. ive heard that its better to find new homes for kittens when they are 12 weeks old or they will have behaviour problems. i think the only reason skunk is nice is because i have her mother and she never left her so she was with her at least 12 weeks. my sister got skeeter when she was to young, i think before she was even 6 weeks, because she was onlt the size of a baseball, and thats why i think shes the meanest cat we have. mic was taken when she was 6 weeks, which is why shes mean, but not as mean as skeeter. what are your trhoughts on this? do you think im right?

I had to grin at this cause I have not had this problem. The last three girl cats I have owned were/are sweeties. I had a girl cat about 20 years ago that was mean but that was because she was not treated well when she was younger. I really think it just goes with the personality of the cat and unfortunately it seems that the girls you have a more of a tiffy attitude type. The age that a cat was taken from its mom should not factor in on if a cat will be mean or not. I got a kitten at age 6 weeks and she was the sweetest cat of all of them.

Monster found me when he was 3 weeks and i was actually just saying that i think thats the reason he is bad. he is not mean per se, or even that bad anymore. he just doesnt know when enough is enough. but i believe that his behavioral probs are bc of the fact that he wasnt with his mother till 12 wks. he is still very cuddly and he loves attention, but it must be on his terms.

Now that would be true. Kittens do learn how to play from their mother. The mother cat helps teach them when playing gets too rough. If they are taken away too early then they lose that lesson if you will. That is different from being mean though IMHO.

i think its different from being mean too, like he is a very very lovable cat and i kno that he loves me, he has his own way of showing it... the people who i live with will say that hes mean. he jumps up on our legs when were walking, attacks feet hands, he isnt being mean he is playing.. i kno that this behavior should be discourged and we dont allow him to do it, and despite my attempts to redirect his play to a toy, he will still come back, and clapping/making loud noises/going limp does not work. i have tried everything. the vet said that he is a kitten and its something "he will probably grow out of" .and it is a bad habit that i have been trying to break all his life (6 months) but he wont stop. i dont believe he is doing this to be mean... he doesnt lash out in anger and attack, i just dont think he understands that it hurts really bad. i have tried softpaws, and they really helped alot with the scratching, but they fell of and i cant get new ones on him. i am taking him to a groomer next weekend to put more on.

Kitten under 12 weeks is too young to give away.
Here in Finlad is the same problem. People doesn't understant the difference between cat and dog. Puppys can go to new home at age 8 week, but not kitten. Kitten really learn lots from its mom and sister.

That's one reason, why every Autum there is hundres of homeless cats. People don't want "bad behavior" cats inside to their homes. They don't realize that it's their own mistake, if cat is behaving badly.
