Look how long it took them to reverse Galileo's excommunication and to canonize Joan of Arc.

I dont mean to be disrespectful, however it is stereotypically catholic. "Well, they are all long gone and dead, and we have not been in the news for a while, so lets just go ahead and release it. . . "

I was raised catholic, and have always found their methods a little screwy. . .

It's not going to be the whole story, and my guess is that it's precisely because of people taking works of fiction like the Da Vinci code to be anything close to fact. I suppose a sanitized half-truth is better than wild speculation, though

I like the fact that it was mis-filed. You can just some some old half-blind monk putting in the wrong spot all those years ago. 'I swear I had that document just yesterday......."

For a long time the Knights of the Temple and the Knights Hospitallers were the only consistant source of a professional military force in the Holy Land. The Templars were also an incredibly wealthy order and some even credit them with creating a banking system. Their financial success was a big reason for their downfall at the hands of Phillip IV who wanted the wealth of the Templars for his own.
