DRM, or Digital Rights Management, has been the bane of the online Music Downloads industry. People just weren't happy paying for music that only works on 1 or 2 players, could only be used on 2 or 3 pre-identified computers, or what other restrictions they chose to put on the songs.

Amazon.com has launched their brand new, still in Beta, DRM free Music store. The songs are in the good ole' MP3 format, and will play on any MP3 player, can be burned to CD, put on backup hard drives, yada yada yada.

This is what I've been waiting for. I've never like the idea of being a music pirate, don't like paying for music that I can barely use, and think that file-sharing software is full of cooties :p

Leave it to a successful retail site, as opposed to someplace dedicated to music and RIAA apparently, to actually LISTEN to what the consumer wants. I see good things in store for Amazon!

You know, it was getting the point that DRM was really nickle and diming the country.

OK I understand copyright laws and such, but to not be allowed the right to make a backup copy? Ummm..thanks folks.

Anyhoo I'm really glad to see mp3s return.

The biggest problem with DRM I see is that it causes a lot of problems for legit buyers but the hackers and the pirates just bypass it without any thought.

Music companies have to understand that their previous business model is going away and will never be back. They need to find a different way of doing business.
