Over the river and through the woods...
So, we went to bed last night and everything was fine. I woke up around 4:00am sweating like crazy. It was like a sauna in our room! I figured maybe DH turned the central air off before we went to bed, and went to open the window...and felt hot air coming out of the vents. So, then I figured maybe one of the cats somehow turned the air to heat (they really aren't that smart...but that was the only explanation I could come up with half asleep). So, I stumble out to the living room to check...and it was still set on cool. I turned it off completely, and hot air STILL kept blowing out. According to the thermostat, it was 82 in the living room. DH had to turn off the breakers to get it to stop!

Thankfully, it's still under warranty but they won't be able to come out and fix it until Monday at the earliest.
It's supposed to be a hot weekend here, mid to upper 80's. Right now it's not too bad but it's only 10:15am. It's not going to be a fun weekend I have a feeling. Hopefully the nights will still be cool.

Oh how awful! I am so sorry for the sauna you are having to live through for the whole weekend!
Do you have someone you can maybe stay with until then (of course your cats too)? Giving cool breeze thoughts your way.

Perhaps with shutting the power off at the breaker it reset itself??? You could give it a try.

My dad has done Air Conditioning for 40years so I think I could help here.

It sounds like it's froze up.
That's when the coils have basically worked too hard and the freon froze in them.
Go outside to where your unit is and see if the copper pipes are wet or cold then let it set for a little while.
After about an hour, turn it back on and it should work.

OR,
You could be low or out of Freon. If that's the case, I would have it checked for leaks.

Hope that helps!

Thanks, but we turned it off at 4:00 and turned it back on at 7:00 and it still blew hot air. Nothing looks frozen. It could be low on freon (I don't know if my husband checked that) but when he called the company we bought the home from (it's a double wide we just had put up in January, so it's still under warranty) and they said it sounds like some valve that switches it from cool to warm malfunctioned and needs replaced. They are the only ones licensed to work on this unit in the area because they are special for mobile homes.

But, at least they are coming on Monday instead of 3 weeks from now. And DH works at a home supply store and the manager is letting him borrow one of the floor a/c units they have in stock. It will be a pain moving it from room to room, but the nights have been fairly cool lately. We rarely have to run the air anyway at night, just open up windows.

But, thanks for all the sympathy guys!

I know how ya feel!
Something went wrong w/ our a/c last month, and we suffered thru the heat for 2 days.
Luckily, my s/o is a handiman, and was able to figure out what was wrong!
Otherwise, who knows WHEN it would have been fixed, b/c it was during the Labor day weekend, and most of the repairmen were gone for the holidays. Things always break down during the holidays!

Try putting some fans in the windows at night to help suck in the cooler night air, then take them out in the morning before it gets too hot..

Have you tried checking your thermostat? Ours went out last March, and we had no heat OR a/c.
