Please can someone offer advice, I don't know what to do. I have 2 cats and one of them just started pooping at the bottom of the stairs. But today, there was also poop in one of my bathrooms. Neither cat is sick (that I know of), is acting sick, I haven't been on a trip lately, and can't think of anything that has changed. They are both 3 and have a love hate relationship. At only one point was there a potty problem, about a year and 1/2 ago, one of them started peeing on the bed, and it happened maybe 8 times over several months and then stopped. I have 2 litter boxes, one is wheat and one is pine. I only ever see one cat go in the pine, so I changed them both to wheat. For 2 days no poop outside, and then today it happened again, but in 2 places! I keep the boxes very clean. What could cause a cat to suddenly change potty habits? It seems like the places she is going are somewhat "hidden" but their litter boxes are pretty hidden and it was the middle of the night, so it would have been private no matter where she went. Help!!!

First thing to do is take your kitty to a vet to ensure that there is no medical issue behind the behavior.

Yes, please take them to the vet. If you want to figure out which one you might have to put them in separate rooms with their own litter boxes. If you don't want to mess with that then take them both in to get checked. Peeing and pooping out of the box usually is a sign that they are not feeling well. Just be on the safe side and get them checked. Praying they are ok.

I do agree that a visit to the vet will be necessary, however, when she was peeing on the bed and I took her to the vet, there wasn't anything wrong with her.

I had a kitty pooping outside the box, and the thing that solved it was putting a litter box on that level of the house. (also some cats won't poop and pee in the same box, so adding one more box really might help.)
