When I was at petco today (10/3/07) I started chatting with a woman who had 25 cats all indoors. I asked her which food she liked best and she pointed to one but told me with 25 cats she could not afford that food.
I snagged the biggest bag they had and walked to the checkout with her. I then put her big bag of catfood with mine and paid for both, all the while the lady with 25 cats claiming she could not accept such a gift from a total stranger.
I turned toward her and said my name is Mary what is yours? "Shelly"
Well hello Shelly, see we are not strangers any more, then I proceeded to walk out.
She ran after me still objecting to my purchase of her cat food. I stopped her and said:
Shelly why do you have 25 cats? (response) because I can't say no
My response to Shelly was this: Look I am ony feeding the cats that I would own but live at your house ok
I can't say no either.
I got in my car and left, she was still standing at the door with a perplexed smile on her face waving at me as I drove away.
On my birthday (Dec 23) I watch the people at my bank go in and out, and just know instinctively the ones that could really use an extra $20.00 for the holidays. I walk up and start to chat with them
then slip them a $20 with a smile and say happy birthday. Most reply but it isn't my birthday today or bless you how did you know... ? My response is: it is my birthday and you just helped me celebrate it, have a nice holiday.
When I get to go out to dinner with my family I always see a couple that have seen better days and pay for their meals.
My husband knows I do this kind of stuff all the time and he still loves me
he says there are not enough good people in the world Mary.
For Christmas one year a friend of mine gave me a plaque and on the front of it was a crude carving of a cat. Ok this must be a joke until I turned it over and read the back.
In the time when there was slavery, a runaway could see this caving of the cat on your property and know that if he or she came to the door they would receive a meal. The cat carving was their way of letting others know a good person lives at this house. It hangs by our front door to this day.

I appologize for running off at the keyboard, but I really needed a distraction for a couple of hours. I keep looking at the clock. The vet said I could call at 2pm about my kitty !!!!!
