How long does it normally take stitches to fall out? I thought it was only a week or two...

My cesarean was a month ago now, and I still have stitches. There's only 3 little bits of stitch poking out, and there have only ever been 3. I've given them a little tug occasionally just to see if they just need a hand, and they're still there.

I thought dissolvable stitches were clear and non-dissolvable were black, is that right? These are clear, but the very tips of them look black.

Any ideas?

The tips could be black from your dried blood, mine looked the same when i had my gum cut open. They actually came out the next day when they shouldn't. Perhaps you should ask your gp if you don't know.

*hugs*

The wound has never been bloody and it's been cleaned pretty well. It's possible, but I wouldn't have thought so? I'm not too worried, it's just annoying me for some reason.

Go get them to cut them out with some sutcher scissors hon. It won't hurt at all. They do not need to stay in you that long though. If they're in the incision area too long it can cause infection. (sometimes the disolvable stitches don't disolve all the way and need a little help getting them out.) It shouldn't hurt at all- so don't worry over that. It should only take a few moments for them to remove them
Definitely go to your doctor though!

When I had stitches in my mouth they were'nt disolvable.(sp?)
I ended up taking a pair of nail scissors, cleaned them with alcohol really well, and cut them out myself

I didn't have transportation to go back to the dentist (100 miles one way) and they were making my gums really sore.. I called the dentist and he said to go ahead. They were in for over a month.

Maybe call your Dr. and ask him

Perhaps they thought they were dissolvable, but only a couple weren't?

If its been a month Iwould call the doc and let them know. As far as I know dissolvable shouldn't be longer than a week.
