Hi~

I went to our Animal Shelter for our Orientation this afternoon and left with a mama cat and her four kittens. I must admit I'm scared...I've wanted to do this and the responsibility of it all just is washing over me. Don't get me wrong...I'm THRILLED I have them...just scared!

I'm sooo thankful that I have this forum to turn to! A couple questions....Mama is very young and while she is nursing the kittens she isn't keeping them very clean. I guess them to be about 3-4 weeks old as they do pottie on their own but are still very wobbly on their legs.

Is there a way to get her to clean them or is this something I am going to have to take over for her?

Two of the kittens have loose stools and the shelter is having them give them some goats milk with this nutrient powder in it. Does this procedure sound familiar to anyone? With them haing diarrhea what should I be on the look out for?

And any additional suggestions for a first time foster mom will be greatly and deeply appreciated! THANK YOU THANK YOU!

Blessings~

I have no idea about the goats milk. But I would probably help mom keep the babies clean by gently washing with a wash cloth.

If the kittens are dirty in a specific area, try putting a little bit of formula there and putting the kitten in front ot mama. I've never tried it, but whenever I would feed my orphan kittens Nanna would go crazy trying to lick off every last drop of formula from their faces/necks/legs, lol.
