Hi!
I am on Vancouver Island in BC and I have one cat so far. Heâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]s a stray I picked up from a parking lot as a kitten; I brought him home, had him vaccinated and vet checked and named him Sohni. Previous to him I had a large orange male named Bonkers who died suddenly at age 12. What an awful day that was. The first time I have had an animal of my own pass away. I found him in the morning and assumed he was still sleeping, and went into so much shock when I realized he was gone, my parents had to come help me. I hope that I am more able to deal with pet death now that I have been through it once, itâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]s such a shame that they canâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]t live as long as we do.
Since I am almost finished grad school, have had the same job for 13 years and just won a fairly large scholarship, I am debating buying a new kitty. Since my family and I have rescued so many strays, I have decided to treat myself to a purebred. So far I have narrowed my choice down to an Egyptian Mau, but when I was younger I always, always, wanted a Maine Coon. I still like the MCâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]s but the Maus are just so pretty and athletic, and have such an interesting history. The ones that I met recently at a local specialty pet store just won me over (no way would I buy a cat from a pet store, but the owners of this store are breeders of Bengals, Scottish Folds and Maus). I have met Bengals, Siamese, Burmese, Scottish Folds and Persians, and I have done extensive research into breeds. I am in contact with a number of Mau breeders and am trying to make my choice of a few kittens.
Since there are almost no Maus around, and because a number of the breeders I have talked to have offered to mentor me, I may even buy a show quality female. I already breed and show German Shepherd Dogs, and I am more than aware of the responsibilities.
Anyway, thatâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]s me. I have a horse and a fish tank, two German Shepherd Dogs plus my cat. I basically work to support my animal habit, and they are all pretty happy with the arrangement. I also love computers, reading, watching movies (both film festival kinds and Hollywood hits), and walking in the woods.
It's neat to find this site and I am learning lots.
