Have You Turned Your Heater On Yet?

I wanted to turn the heater on all summer, but as a matter of principle (being a Texan) I couldn't do it even though we spent most days in the 50's (12 Celsius) here by the ocean. Brrr....

I broke down a week ago and turned it on, even though it's only slightly colder now. The house gets this bone-chill, you know?

When did you turn your heater on, or when to you plan to?

We had our little electric heater on in the bedroom a few nights last week when it was down in the 40s at night, but we haven't needed it at all this week.

It's still in the 80's & 90's here (Texas), but it's supposed to "cool off" next week - although I doubt we'll need the heaters yet!

But I can certainly sympathize w/ you: I'm from Wisconsin, and the heaters are on THERE about 7-8 months of the year!

but I think I turned on the heater Sunday. We are having rain and cold, so I turn it on just to break the chill.

I had to turn it on about a month ago, in central B.C. it has been dipping down to 1C . winter is coming

At this point I don't know if it will ever be turned on, living in FL the heat doesn't get used to much.

Haha...not for a loooooong time. It's still in the 80s and 90s here. Some time mid November we will get some hard freezes and stop turing the AC on. Not until about December will we begin to put the heat on...as long as the inside of the house keeps about 75 F all year long.

I wanted to turn ours on for the last couple weeks, but the landlord is just turning on the heat today.

I've had our gas fireplace on a couple of times just to take the chill out of the air, but I'm still holding off on the main house heat.

We've been in the 80s for a couple weeks. Going to hit a record on Friday possibly with the 90s.

My goodness - where in Canada do you folks live? I live in the Toronto area and we've had our windows open every night. It's still quite warm here.

No heater here for AWHILE! Its still in the 70s here- but maybe when it gets down into the 20s well turn it on

Oh your serious?? No, we have not. I wish we needed to though.
were dipping into the low 40 or 30s at night so ya it is on
post #16 of 62
Not us! Our AC is on! It's been in the 70's and 80's here still.
We normally don't have to turn on the heater until January or February. Even then it's only enough to take the chill out of the air.

Today it's 86 degrees outside and A/C is a blowing!

Ah, you are right, it's the rain that adds the damp chill. And you are nearby, so we are having the same weather!

In Texas, we used to turn the a.c. up so we could light a fire in the fireplace on Christmas Eve.

It's particularly cold (and now rainy and damp) where we are because there is always a chilly breeze from the ocean. I remember three days this past summer that we didn't need jackets during the day (at our house). It gets a lot warmer in downtown Victoria, just a few blocks away.

Brrrrr....

Yes I finally broke down and turned mine on a few days ago. More so because of the dampness then the cold. I find the myold joints bother me to much when it is cool and rainy and having the heat on just a bit takes care of it.

It's still way too hot here! Low 90s! The heater probably won't get turned on until the end of November if we are lucky!

They raise us tough in the "frozen tundra" of Wisconsin!!
No need for heat for several weeks yet. I will still have windows open when its in the 50's.
And I wear shorts/T-shirt as long as I can. Of course a have nice down throws on the sofa to keep me warm if I need them.
Ours is set to come on at a certain temp, and I remember it coming on one evening, but nope, generally I have still had windows open, and even still used the A/C recently

It's a little chilly today but the windows are still open. It's supposed to be in the 30's again this week. Hopefully not, we took the air conditioner out yesterday.

Our heat hasn't been on yet. The few days its been cold, we just wore sweaters.
No the A/C is still on ...maybe in November I'll turn the heat on
post #25 of 62
We still have the a/c on...a little too cold for my taste personally. I think the cats are getting sick.

The weather is perfect open-the-windows weather, but most of the screens on this house either have holes in them or are non existant.
I still turn on the A/C at night, so nope, no heat yet, lol. Its only dipping into the low 50's at night, so not really " COLD" yet.
Although it has been chilly here at night and during the day, I still have the central air on and the heating system off! Postponing that heating bill as long as I can!
It's been in the 80's + here recently- so no heat for us yet. I have noticed it's gotten to be a bit cooler lately though- so we will probably have to turn ours in the next few weeks
post #29 of 62
It's been in the 40s at night here, and I am FREEZING, but my stupid roomie keeps opening his window and leaving it open all night, so I can't put the heat on in the house yet. Ginger comes in to my room in the morning to give me kisses, and her coat is COLD!

At the office, they keep putting the AC on all day, despite the fact that it is only in the 60s outside. So here I sit with my hood on, with freezing air blasting down my back and my space heater blasting away at my feet!

SO stupid.
I didn't turn my A/C on all summer so I'm not planning on turning the heat on until I absolutely can't stand it- I have a living, purring blanket at night so that always keep me warm I only turn my heater up to 65 degrees anyway
