I am a new member who joined because we have recently moved here to Hawaii and a stray cat has adopted us. She is now pregnant, which I know nothing about. I have owned dogs my whole life and never really had any type of relationship with a cat. I couldn't help but try to find out more about what to expect and what to do for this cat. I do have dogs and we have a small fenced in area attached to a small building we are living in. We are currently building our new home and we are living on the property in a 24 X 30 building set up like a studio. I have 6 dogs and they will not allow her to walk into the yard. She has been staying in front of the building sleeping on some blankets I gave her and hiding under our cars which are only about 5 feet from her blankets. When I realized she was going to have kittens I put one of our dog travel crates out for her in hopes she would grow to like it enough to consider it home and have her kittens there. I removed the front grate and am planning on putting up a half high wall to act as a door so the kittens have some protection. I have been bringing her in the house in my arms and she is at ease around the dogs as long as I'm holding her. She also does not have a problem swatting at them if they get to close to her on the other side of the fence. All of the dogs sniff her when I bring her into the house and then they leave us alone and go about their own business, but I still am to scared to let her down. I kinda have grown to Love this silly little cat. I joing this site because there seemed to be so many members that really cared about their pets/family members and the knowledge I picked up was incredible. I had to keep this site part of my life. Hope to be talking with everyone a bunch since I am a new cat owner and she is going to have kittens.
