When I was volunteering at a local humane society, someone dumped a box 7 dalmatian puppies! No note or anything, just left them at the society's door. They were adorable and rambunctious! Thankfully they were all adopted.
We also had a lady come by who wanted to give back a cat because he wasn't a lap cat. The poor cat didn't even have a chance to adjust to his new home and owner!

Wow...Wow.

I'm hoping that once I get settled here I can volunteer at the local shelter. I can hardly wait to hear these in real person

It's hard to stand there and listen; you want to just reach over the counter and strangle them! You can see two extremes of human nature at a "shelter". You witness great acts of love and great acts of indifference.

You never really know what you've gotten in to until you hold one as they die. The few I've done have always looked into my eyes, & I always look right back. They have to know that someone loved them....and I am honored to get to be that person.

Yeah, you get some very 'interesting' calls and people in shelters

BUT you do get some amazing stories too, like a woman who came in and said she had to have one of her cats PTS and could we show her the oldest, most unadoptable cat we had so she could make sure it got a home and the love it needs

We had a young couple come in and do this. They asked which cat had been there the longest and they played with her for a long time finally asked why she was still here because she was so sweet and we told them because they thought her eyes were funny looking. She was all white cat with blue eyes but she kept them squinted most of the time because she was very sensitive to bright lights. No one wanted her because of that.
They ended up taking home her and the sweetest black cat ever that had been in the rescue a couple years. They are now fostering for us. LOL

I have one for you. I'm a real estate agent and I was trying to get an appointment to show a house. The listing agent told me that I had to wait an half hour or so because the dog had gotten sick on the carpet.

So we waited. When my clients and I walked up to the house and rang the bell the owner answered the door and said, "Gosh, thanks for waiting my husband just took the dog to the pound because we don't want to take him with us and we were having a real hard time with our kids because they didn't want us to do it! The dog is gone now so everything is OK."

I was in total SHOCK! How could someone do this!
Needless to say I made sure I DID NOT sell their house! I pointed out all the horrible things about the house I could find just so my people would not want it!

I have a neighbour that sounds like some of these.

She had 2 turtles, 4 crabs, 2 bearded dragons and fish

Then bought a maine coon kitten around 8 weeks old

Apparently the crabs died dont know about the turtles but they are gone she sold the bearded dragons and also sold the kitten 3 months old/.

AND now has a dog (puppy)

the best laugh is because we are in army quarters these flats are supposed to be no pet flats ( i have already sorted this out about Simba) we are definately not allowed dogs due to barking etc.

The neighbour downstairs has reported her to the welfare office and he will get into major trouble from the army for breaking known rules

Hubby turned around and said that the puppy has joined the titanic because they are just a sinking ship.

I feel for the poor wee thing because its life will be a misery.

The last one makes me want to
I cant believe some people when they adopt animals. And so many have the worst excuses. I was glad that when I went to the SPCA to adopt Katina & Monte, there wasn't anyone turning an animal over - just people giving them loving homes. One guy adopted a sick (kennel cough) 6 year old Beagle and I thought it was just a sweet sight
